Overall Satisfaction with e-automate

e-automate is our company's ERP solution. Our technicians also use it for remote tech. Our technicians love e-automate and it is great for billing. We built a couple of programs outside of e-automate, which is one of the areas where we are having issues. We find ourselves doing double the manual work because there isn't a public API accessible so we aren't able to connect. I'm also a CPA and do accounting for a lot of businesses in various industries outside of footPRINT that use various ERPs. The one issue with e-automate that I have found over the years is the amount of labor hours that go into maintaining it. I have several 30-60 million dollar companies that I do all the accounting for in 2-3 days a month. footPRINT is nowhere near that size, but I spend 60-80 hours a week trying to keep the accounting up to date.

Pros

  • Contract Billing.
  • Remote Tech.
  • Month End Closing.

Cons

  • Open API connections.
  • Ability to delete data.
  • Accounting efficiencies.
  • Visibility to profitability.
  • Better automation around contract billing.
  • Automation for technicians.
To me, the contract management features are the primary reason anyone signs up for e-automate. They allow you to maintain your contracts with ease and give you more visibility into future events such as contract expirations, lease expirations, etc. The ability to pull in meters automatically is also very important at a certain point.
I handled all of our accounting in Quickbooks and then in e-automate up until we hit around the 5 million mark. The one system for workflows definitely helped keep things organized and gave us visibility into profitability. However, it also took away countless hours of my life over the years that I'm still wondering if it was worth it.
I have used many different ERP programs over the years. It's hard to compare e-automate to other programs because a lot is dependent on the client (size, needs, etc.). I would probably put e-automate in the lower tier when stacked up against some of the other solutions. I think at one point, they were much higher, but we haven't seen much technological advancement from e-automate over the years, where the other companies have really moved along.

Do you think e-automate delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with e-automate's feature set?

Yes

Did e-automate live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of e-automate go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy e-automate again?

No

I could personally do the accounting for any business in this industry using any ERP program on the market. I could do all the accounting for a company that is 10 million dollars in a week a month. Or I would have to hire several people and spend 60-80 hours a week in order to handle their accounting. For very large organizations with healthy margins I would definitely recommend e-automate. To anyone else, I would not. They're better off not hiring multiple people and paying their accountants a small amount to maintain everything. The investment in eA is much bigger than just the licensing fee and monthly charge each month.
