Overall Satisfaction with FreshBooks
It is used for tracking time and expenses, invoicing said time and expenses and was once used for reporting purposes. Originally, the software was used across the organization but now it is only being used by the employees who insist on design considerations over a robust functionality. The invoices look satisfactory at best.
- Intuitive user interface
- Invoices are easy to edit
- The mobile app provides notifications
- The projects functionality is good in theory
- The reporting functionality is poor - behaves more like a ledger than financial reporting tool
- Transaction fees are very high unless your dollar volumes are very high
- The estimates tool is nothing more than an excel spreadsheet
- It is cheap software so ROI is reasonable if you believe it prompted at least one fairly significant invoice (>$750) to pay that otherwise would not have
- Should be thought of as an entry level software for someone who is just beginning
- Distracting and inaccurate reporting capabilities
- The collaboration feature is not helpful if one uses outside vendors
QuickBooks Online and Xero are the most obvious comps to FreshBooks. FreshBooks pricing is based on the number of billable clients while QuickBooks Online will charge additional for additional features regardless of number of billable clients. Xero has additional functionality than FreshBooks due to Xero's better HR integration, particularly payroll capabilities.
