HPE Nimble: Analytics and Scalability
Overall Satisfaction with HPE Nimble Storage
We purchased an all SSD array a few years back and still use it in production today. Our top tier storage provider for production is PURE, but we supplement with this array for our external facing customers. We have anywhere from 7-20 customers hosted on this array at any given time.
Pros
- Scaling - We were able to start low and scale up as needed. We have upgraded the storage amount twice.
- Reporting - Nimble is very good at anticipating failure or incompatibilities with VMWare software upgrades.
- Performance - Customers are always happy with the performance when their servers have been hosted on our nimble array.
Cons
- Licensing - Cost to get back on support if lapsed is significant.
- We have been able use HPE Nimble to resell hosting space and its almost paid for itself at this point.
- Storage upgrades were easy and we only paid for the storage we needed at any given time.
- Firmware upgrades were non intrusive and saved the time/cost of afterhours upgrades.
- EMC VNX (Discontinued), Dell Unity XT Unified Storage and Pure Storage FlashArray
EMC and Dells products were long in the tooth and kind of outdated. They lacked the reporting and analytics that HPE Nimble provides. Pure is really our gold standard for storage , but even Pure lacks the analytics that HPE is able to achieve. I would love to transfer those analytics to our PURE arrays.
