Overall Satisfaction with IBM Maximo Application Suite

We implement IBM Maximo Application Suite for our customers, via both hosted and on-premises solutions, and have a wide scope as an IBM Platinum business partner. I work as the manager of the cloud hosting team, hosting IBM Maximo Application Suite on AWS, and work specifically with the technical aspects of IBM Maximo Application Suite, including deployment, monitoring, security, automation and analytics. My business problems revolve primarily around the DevOps side of IBM Maximo Application Suite, whereby knowledge in debugging Ansible and YAML deployment files becomes key.

Pros

  • Very simple to deploy on OpenShift (using Ansible playbooks)
  • Excellent support for integrations. Simple to configure LDAPS, SAML, SMTP, Kafka, etc.

Cons

  • Would be useful to have MFA built into the application stack; currently only supported via 3rd party SAML integration
  • Support for modern database platforms for Maximo Manage - i.e. Oracle 21 or 23
  • Increased uptime due to the self-healing nature of OpenShift; I.e. pods that go down will automatically be recreated due to state awareness (current state vs desired state). Allowed us to host systems with 99.99% SLA to customers.
  • Time savings for deployment vs Maximo 7.6.x on WebSphere; approximately 70% faster to deploy for a competent technical consultant familiar with Ansible and Openshift.
Scaling has become much simpler with the move to Red Hat Openshift. Adding additional worker nodes to increase compute is so simple now; and can be easily automated to meet workload requirements. Adding additional server bundles is also incredibly flexible by simply creating additional replicas of the required pods.
Deployment times are vastly reduced, which allows us to focus on other crucial business operations on the peripheral of our hosted IBM Maximo Application Suite solutions, such as monitoring, logging, analytics, etc.

Do you think IBM Maximo Application Suite delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with IBM Maximo Application Suite's feature set?

Yes

Did IBM Maximo Application Suite live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of IBM Maximo Application Suite go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy IBM Maximo Application Suite again?

Yes

IBM Maximo Application Suite is well suited for medium to large scale organisations requiring and enterprise grade asset management solution. It is less suited to smaller organisations, due to it's reasonably heavy infrastructure footprint (compared to Maximo 7.6.x) and complexity to administer without key skills in Red Hat Openshift, containerisation, etc.
