Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a Jamf Integrator, I assist clients new to Jamf Pro by helping to get them set up with managing Apple devices. Jamf Pro is a framework that can be used in a wide variety of functions for different environments. Previously I worked as a System Administrator for an MSP that support 100+ clients with 2,500+ total devices with managing Apple devices.

I view Jamf Pro as the primary automation tool to maintain and streamline support for Apple devices. If compared to the Windows side of the world, SCCM would be the closest equivalent.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Helping to streamline Apple device setups with Apple's deployment programs (DEP & VPP).
Apple Software upgrades and updates, along with settings and third-party software for macOS.
Deploying custom scripted solutions for inventory and taking action on macOS.
Process monitoring and blocking.
Patch Management

Cons

It has patch management, but it is one of the newer features and has room for improvement.
Older features are geared toward local servers and the new features are more cloud-based. There can be a disconnect between them.

Alternatives Considered

AirWatch and Cisco Meraki Systems Manager

Jamf Pro is far superior to any other Mobile Device Management solution on the market. Most MDM's stop with Configuration Profiles where Jamf offers policies with custom scripting resources for both Inventory and taking action on macOS. Jamf Pro offers a more stable and robust full solution for the management of Apple devices.

Axiom Sales Force Development, LogMeIn Central, Zendesk

Likelihood to Recommend

Jamf Pro is hands down the best management tool for Apple devices, gives you the ability to use custom scripts for both Inventory and Actions. It also integrates very well with Apple's deployment programs. It was not designed to be cross-platform for management abilities. If you are looking to manage Windows, I would suggest SCCM and consider the plug-in to share inventory between management systems.
