Overall Satisfaction with Laserfiche

We use Laserfiche as both an archival tool and as a workflow engine for managing documents. We currently use it across about 20 departments, but our major users are Human Resources, Finance and Special Education. It has allowed us to reduce the amount of physical paper and more importantly it has allowed us to automatically move and transfer documents both intra and inter departmentally. We have also recently begun using it for electronic forms.
  • Integration with other systems. This has allowed us to leverage Active Directory and our Identity Management system to manage security attributes for documents. We also have automated the transmission of documents from other systems. We have significantly reduced the amount of scanning required of documents
  • Client based full users have powerful features they can use to search and retrieve documents.
  • The ability to use data lookup tables greatly simplifies data entry into templates and reduces the possibility of mistakes.
  • The Forms Workflow features need to be strengthened to match the capability of Laserfiche Workflow. They are two different workflow engines, but the Laserfiche Workflow is the more capable of the two.
  • The Forms integration with AD for licensing purposes doesn't currently allow the use of AD Groups to manage licenseholders. You can use AD OU's, but this doesn't work well in our situation. We understand that Laserfiche is addressing the issue.
  • The RIO licensing model overall has complicated user administration. We strongly prefer a concurrent user licensing model.
  • Our use of workflow for Special Education documents has greatly reduced the amount of effort (and physical storage space) to manage these documents. We received a Laserfiche "Run Smarter" award for our efforts in this area.
Overall Laserfiche is a pretty sound product. The Forms tool is the newest part and still has a little ways to go to achieve maturity.

Using Laserfiche

For simple scanning and archiving it's very easy to use. Developing workflows takes more programming and integration skills than most people would have.
