Overall Satisfaction with Looker

We use Looker to create Google Analytics reports for various clients within our university system. We monitor traffic for all university web pages and have specific goals and outcomes. Looker helps us see results. Our degree program pages and our admissions pages contain campaign URLs and goals for conversion so that we can see what users are clicking on, what pages they visit the most, and what events they click on. We also use it to monitor how users advance through our pages and monitor outbound clicks to apply for programs. We use it to gauge targeted traffic from various locations (perhaps with an ad campaign) and build graphic reports for our clients who may not understand how analytics works. Looker better describes how users navigate our sites and why our campaigns may or may not be working or converting the way we want. We also look at how people utilize such events as downloading a PDF or watching a video.

Pros

  • Show visited pages - sessions, pageviews - which programs are viewed the most.
  • Displays session source/medium views to see where users are coming from.
  • It shows the video titles, URLs, and event counts so we can monitor the performance of our videos.
  • It gives a graphic face to the numbers, such as using bar charts, pie graphs, and other charts to show user trends or which channels are driving engagement.
  • Our clients like to see the top pages visited for a month.
  • I like the drop-and-drag approach, and building charts is a little easier than it was before.

Cons

  • Setting up sessions and dimensions to show what we need is still a learning curve.
  • I haven't figured out how to print a report for those who can't get the report online.
  • It could be a bit more intuitive or have more "helpers" to create the views we need to make.
  • Some charts only show two items such as page title and views or page title and sessions, but would have to use a bar graph to show more data (maybe sessions, total users, views, etc.).
  • It would be great if an automatic "dashboard" of data for the site could be displayed overall.
  • Other than some people not liking the numbers, I don't see any negative impacts; we haven't experienced that.
  • The reports help us unravel the story of our users and how they are sifting through our pages.
  • Our clients enjoy seeing the numbers to understand better what stands out on their sites.
  • The reports have helped us see what campaigns are working and where we need to tweak things.
  • The reports have enabled us to have better conversations with stakeholders about how their web pages should be modified, edited, etc., to reflect the data.

Do you think Looker delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Looker's feature set?

Yes

Did Looker live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Looker go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Looker again?

Yes

I don't know any other tool like Looker. They may be out there, but this is the only one I've seen. I am in the process of learning how to use this tool, so training or better help files would be great to have. I've watched a lot of videos and have done some training with our experts, but just on a day-to-day level, having better help and tutorial files would be great to have.
