Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Office 365

All departments use Office 365. We have our entire team using it for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and so on. Most of the team also uses Outlook for mail despite being on Macs. It does a decent job at an affordable price and means all our documents are compatible with essentially anyone else's systems, since Google Drive takes .docx, .xlsx, .ppt etc. as uploads.

Pros

  • Easy to get onto new machines vs. having to install from a CD
  • MS Office remains the standard for word processing & spreadsheets
  • Each license allows installation on multiple machines

Cons

  • Some formatting doesn't work well between machines even using the same program (maybe different versions?)
  • Office has become harder, not easier, to use over the years as the menu options have largely (but not all!) been migrated to the ribbon
  • Outlook is just not as easy to use as mail - it sort of does more than it needs to
  • An office suite is necessary, and the price is just right for our company size.
  • Microsoft Office 365 allows us to create professional documents, thereby making us look more put together to our clients.
Microsoft Office 365 was selected likely because most people at our company still find it to be more trustworthy than Google Drive. I personally would likely not have selected it, but do understand that it's the industry standard for most people. It's also a far lower cost for our team size than Google Drive would be (partly because it's simply the office suite and not online storage, etc.).
Microsoft Office 365 is well suited for individual use. Having used Google Drive in the past (and personally), Microsoft Office 365 is not well suited for revision tracking, and therefore not well suited for collaboration. If you turn on Track Changes, the document's sidebar quickly becomes unreadable, especially if you are also entering notes on your changes. This is a stark contrast to Google Drive, where you can easily compare your revisions and see what other people have added.
