Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Power BI

I use Microsoft Power BI to automate reporting and generate visuals that display company objectives. Specifically, I feed in data processed in R or Databricks which has been cleaned and structured. Microsoft Power BI automatically generates the reports each month quickly and efficiently. This provides senior leadership with many easy to understand metrics, charts and tables with which to get a grip on department level goals.

Pros

  • Visuals
  • Automatic report generation
  • Ease of creating new ways to look at data

Cons

  • Please allow a sql editor for data manipulation. I think current data manipulation tools in Microsoft Power BI are cumbersome and difficult to use.
  • Decreased time spent on generating reports by 80%
  • Increased reporting accuracy
  • Allowed us to present the whole state of a fortune 100 companies marketing performance in 15 minutes.
Once the data is in it is fairly easy to use but the data needs to manipulated outside the program or it is a pain.
Each has a different function. I think Microsoft Power BI is easier to use than Tableau and cheaper but SQL and databricks have so much more versatility

Yes

It is great for squeaky clean data that has been structured in exactly the right manner. But if you need to do any transforms or manipulations then, in my opinion, that needs to be handled outside I think Microsoft Power BI. Coding in DAX is a pain and a simple sql layer after the data has been imported would make the experience so much more user friendly since everyone knows sql.
