Overall Satisfaction with Miro
As a service designer I use it for the discovery process, including research (qual and quant), the define process, including affinitisation and the converging of ideas, to the design phase (including usability testing and note-taking). Miro is my primary tool regardless of the design phase and I think of myself as an expert user, having used it since around 2019.
Pros
- Research affinitisation
- Collaboration and co-creation in real-time
- Templates are great in Miro!! I also appreciate being able to create tables and uses emojis, and other whiteboarding nice-to-haves
Cons
- Icon libraries are poor (not emojis)
- Colour options for post-its (why can't I create my own colours?)
- Slow to load large whiteboards. Designer whiteboards are usually massive and I have to often create multiple boards for the same project because they become so slow to load
- Team collaboration
- Effectiveness and quality of ideas
- One tool that does almost everything you need
The biggest one are post-it notes without a doubt, and the real-time ability (minus lagging for large boards) to collaborate. This is the best tool for service designers to use to work together to create better products, services, and overall outcomes. I haven't used it as much because I appreciate that affinitisation should almost be manual so you start grouping ideas for yourself, but I think the AI tool is pretty handy and relatively successful as well. I'd like to see how Miro can take this further.
I hate using FigJam despite most other designers in my organisation preferring it. I think service designers tend to prefer Miro and it's flexibility and functionality, but I can obviously see there is an opportunity to become a better all-in-one tool that see FigJam as having an edge. Personally, it is exactly that.
I haven't used other products and I wasn't aware Miro had other products so I cannot evaluate. I cannot talk to this further.
