Overall Satisfaction with Miro

We've had the most success using Miro in large-group settings where a collection of teams is brainstorming solutions to large or complex problems. Most recently we had members of four teams in a brainstorming session to answer some software architecture design questions and prioritize and order development tasks that were spread across teams.

Pros

  • It's incredibly intuitive; within minutes new contributors were able to contribute meaningfully
  • The tools that Miro provides to align, connect and organize boxes of text work very well
  • The ability to seamlessly zoom and pan even on a big board is great
  • Friction-free collaboration - literally no bumps in the road even with many people simultaneously working.

Cons

  • It'd be neat to get some importability with semantics attached
  • Rapid acceleration of project planning
  • Rapid acceleration of technical decision-making
I've seen "tech-allergic" project managers and others figure out how to use Miro in minutes - and I've seen more tech-savvy users adopt & become quite proficient in a very short time.
I myself was able to figure out how to best use the tool - turning semi-random linked-boxes into a high-level project plan - in ten minutes. This let me focus on the actual ideas and plans in play rather than the tool.
Members of the teams that I manage use Miro to communicate about technical plans, software architecture, and other details. They use the tool entirely independently of me but of course Miro makes it easy for me to pop in, take a look around, and learn some details without having to bother them or ask annoying questions. This lets me focus our conversations on the ideas, plans and design without needing a status update or overview first.
Miro has reduced the amount of screen-shotting that we do between and among tools like PowerPoint and/or with the use of Teams. Instead, everybody will hop on either a Teams call or a Slack huddle while simultaneously using a Miro board. It's seamless and although I admit that it is a tool for work and not for fun, it is kind of enjoyable.

Do you think Miro delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Miro's feature set?

Yes

Did Miro live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Miro go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Miro again?

Yes

Miro is especially strong when doing free-form ideation and brainstorming, and then the rapid organization and alignment of the ideas generated in such a session. Software architecture, project scheduling & management are areas that I've seen good success.
I haven't yet seen Miro fail at a particular task - I suspect that it would be less useful in managerial one-on-ones with employees or similar sorts of tasks but I admit I haven't tried such a thing using Miro.
