Overall Satisfaction with Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure

We use Nutanix to consolidate all the various hypervisors and non-standard setups we have around the globe. Implementing Nutanix eliminates all the maintenance headaches of dealing with multiple vendors/products for firmware, drivers and support.

  • Initial costs were big. Lots of paperwork to secure the funding.
The cost of vBlock is just enormous and it is more suited for massive enterprises where you'll need an entire datacentre in a box.

Nutanix is suited for everything!

The only scenario where I would not implement it is at a site which does not have at least 3 ESX hosts and 100VMs. The cost would not be justifiable

Using Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure

3 - Infrastructure Engineers will often login to AOS/Prism to perform firmware upgrades or patching. Most administrative functions are performed on the ESXi side but for automated patching and upgrades, it's best to let AOS/Prism handle the process.
3 - We have over about dozen clusters deployed globally which require very little attention other than during the patching schedule.

No special skills are required but an administrative course is recommended to better understand the platform and how best to diagnose is there are any unforeseen issues.

We are impressed with the AOS solution and are standardising on a global platform to minimise hardware variation, minimise business disruption and maximise best value for the business

Evaluating Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure and Competitors

The single most important factor has been the feature set of the Nutanix AOS providing ease of management and valuable insight into the performance of the platform. The Prism element views straight out of the box provide easy-to-consume statistics with intuitive self-explanatory settings. Added bonus is the ever improving one-click upgrades which supports ESXi and AHV hypervisor patching and upgrades. New Lifecycle management feature also provides easy to use firmware upgrades for the entire platform.

Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure Support

Nutanix support is the benchmark I use as a comparison to other vendors. Support calls go directly to level 3 support, there is no triage process and no waiting for higher level engineers to become available. Nutanix engineers that I have dealt with are all qualified with Cisco and VMware certifications so there has never been an instance where we had to pull in another vendor's support. An absolute pleasure to deal with.

Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure Reliability

AOS performance is 10/10, there has been very little in the way of lag or a negative experience. More recent updates from Nutanix provide better features and increased performance but may require additional memory allocation to CVMs.
