Overall Satisfaction with Optimizely

We use optimizely on the marketing team to quickly A/B test variations of copy, imagery and design across all of our web properties. It allows us to easily make changes to our pages without having to go through our tech department so we can go from test creation to collecting data in a matter of minutes.

Pros

  • Very easy to set up and install
  • A solid suite of tools to edit and make changes to your page(s) and design tests
  • Great real-time visualization of your tests and quality reporting

Cons

  • It would be nice if the system could easily integrate into other systems (i.e. a CRM) and pull in down funnel conversion metrics
  • Would be great to have built in heat mapping
  • Has helped us hone our traffic to lead conversion rate
  • Has helped us put data behind certain branding decisions
We previously used Google's content experiments to do our A/B testing, but we found their testing methodology to be inflexible (they would often stop experments when they felt that a certain level of confidence was met and did not allow us to build in our own level of confidence based on down funnel metrics) and not built for our needs. We switched to Optimizely and haven't looked back since.
Besides the fact that we're already invested in the product, it's baked into our processes, it has become an invaluable tool in our arsenal. The realtime reporting alone is worth our renewal. We are very happy with the flexibility of the product (as well as the pricing) and will most definitely be renewing for the foreseeable future.
If you have a well developed techdev process, you'll definitely need to make sure Optimizely will fit into your current process. It's great for simple CMSes, but you can run into difficulties with custom or more complex CMSes. If you're also looking to run cross site design changes, you'll want to determine if Optimizely will work for you.
