Overall Satisfaction with Pantheon
Pantheon is being used by smaller teams for the rapid deployment of small-scale websites and testing and research purposes. This occurs throughout the organization, as the ease of use permits staff without traditional IT skills to build and deploy sites without the need to engage with the IT department. This greatly enhances speed to work and takes a burden off the shoulders of the IT support department, who are very grateful indeed.
Pros
- Backup and fast recover
- Fast chat support
- Easy to see site status
Cons
- Sometimes if you leave the browser open too long, commits won't appear unless you refresh the page
- Cloning only updated content between sandboxes would be great, instead of cloning the entire DB
- Sometimes first-tier chat support rely on forwarding you to FAQ pages instead of closely examining the request or issue raised
- It has saved us having to hire/pay a full time dev ops engineer
- The use of the free instance spinning up helps save costs on deploying test sites
- We can pay a fee based on expected traffic for each instance
Pantheon's use of Git is much better than WP Engine, and Pantheon's interface is better. However, Pantheon costs more and would likely suit medium to larger organizations.
GoDaddy's dedicated WordPress offering is much more restrictive compared with Pantheons and suits smaller-sized businesses/projects. It is much cheaper, though.
