Overall Satisfaction with Paylocity
We switched to Paylocity in hopes it would make our payroll review process smoother, especially given that we are about to be subject to additional audit rules as we grow. Unfortunately in my experience the product is far less useful for this purpose than our previous payroll software. We were also hoping to streamline recruiting and onboarding, but have not been able to implement these features due to the multitude of issues in basic functionality (time off accrual tracking, mid-payroll increases, salary time approvals, efficient timecard review). These issues have left us unable to see a future with this product so we are starting the selection process again instead of implementing more Paylocity features.
- They have smooth salespeople
- Provide a slick-looking interface
- Providing a contract-free relationship
- Payroll implementation was not planned. This should take plenty of time asking questions and understanding needs. Instead, huge misses created additional work, which four months later is still not complete and still causing issues.
- Mid-payroll functionality is a must. Employees start, leave, have babies, get raises, etc., in the middle of the pay period. This is how a business must operate - especially in an environment where labor shortages are common - and your software needs to handle it.
- Time off accrual and tracking are abysmal. This needs to be streamlined, be easier for employees to use, easier for managers to use and must actually calculate the correct amounts. Currently we have to hand-calculate vacation payouts every time an employee leaves because the system is never up to date (by design, for some reason).
- Your service team cannot help with programming errors and implementation issues. Our implementation team is now ghosting us, so we have no useful support. Requests for help correcting errors seemingly go into a black hole.
- More time is spent reviewing payroll than before but errors are still higher
- More time must be spent manually calculating pay and leave balances
- Data exports are more difficult and in a less useful format than our previous software
In my opinion, we have gone backwards in this area because the tool is so bad at basic functions that we are spending more time reviewing and hand calculating pay and time off. We were hoping to eliminate our paper method of processing personnel changes, but the system is not user friendly and produces too many errors to allow us to do so.
We have spent far more time than anticipated trying to implement the basic payroll functions and will not be able to utilize the other features like employee engagement.
I would recommend PayStubz over Paylocity any day, but they have been purchased by BerganKDV and I'm unsure whether the product is the same any longer. We evaluated PayChex and now wish we would have selected their product instead of Paylocity, though we were put off by the cost of their timekeeping solution.
