Overall Satisfaction with PitchBook
As an investor at an early stage venture capital firm, my work revolves around seeking and analyzing data that isn't available to all. Thus, PitchBook forms an integral part of my daily workflows. Seeking information on deals, investors, market signals and more. It usually is my first source for data before seeking it elsewhere. Takes a little while getting used to the platform, but once I got a hang of where different tools are and what can I do with them, the productivity grew exponentially. From deal sourcing to platform services and fundraiseg, I find myself touching PitchBook in most of the projects. The data coverage is great, though not absolute. This is the biggest challenge for any private market tool that I have come across. But PitchBook does a great job of structuring and helping make sense of what is available.
Pros
- Deal Sourcing - find recently funded companies
- LP search for endowment funds
- Portfolio company opportunity scores
- Co-investor search
Cons
- Coverage of deals in India seems to be much slower at this point
- Updated company financials. Avoid showing dated 5 year old revenues would be better instead
- An enhanced section focused on Incubators / Accelerators. I'd love a place to track my favorite incubators like YCombinator, Alchemist, etc., and find deals from them
- Ability to screen 100s of deals daily, up from a few dozen. This translates to thousands of companies screened per month.
- Easier tracking and benchmarking of portfolio web signals and footprint at the same place.
- Found an LP that we wouldn't have otherwise.
Private market data, by design is supposed to be non-transparent. But PitchBook does a good job of collecting and structuring whatever it can. I constantly utilize the information on what investors are doing what deals, the sizes and valuations at which those deals are happening and how are the portfolio compositions changing.
PitchBook is the most polished and the most comprehensive tool of everything that I have tries in this space. Unparalleled coverage and structure. And to top it all of, the customer service is top notch. I have analyst hours each month to get any customized projects done by PitchBook analysts instead of having to spend time and energy myself.
