Overall Satisfaction with Rubrik

Rubrik has taken over as our primary local back up device, replacing all other devices. We then set up the device to send out a remote copy to our offsite storage. It resolved a lot of issues that we had with other back up systems and the feature that we like the most is the ability to instantly restore an entire server. Support is also excellent when we had issues. I think the "follow the sun" support model can be a bit better though because it seemed like I got responses very late in the day for some of the tickets and then had to work into the night to resolve some of the tickets. However, all the technicians that I encountered were superb.

Pros

  • Instant restore of entire servers.
  • Easy to understand dashboard, very intuitive.
  • Remote agents are automatically updated when the device is OS is updated.
  • Able to easily onboard devices that we need to back up.

Cons

  • Setting up e-mail alerts.
  • Getting certificate installed.
  • Would be great if Rubrik and self test backups (as in restore tests).
  • It saved us quite a bit of time from having to worry about backups.
  • System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM)
DPM was complex to set up. We then switched to ABS which was an easier version of DPM but still had challenges. We were able to switch to Rubrik and had consistency, speed, and less management.

Easiness of backup. Easiness of restore.
Since it's not a Windows device, we don't need to worry about updates.
The Ransomware protection feature is second to none.
We also like the fact that we can put process in place to protect previous backups (immutable).
