Overall Satisfaction with SAP Analytics Cloud

We recently completed a proof of concept of SAC Planning for one of our finance teams. The POC was completed in partnership with SAP and a partner and successfully fulfilled all the features and functionality it was aiming to serve. We are currently working with the AE to start the next pilot phase contingent upon commercial discussions.

Pros

  • Simple data Input and light planning scenarios.
  • Collecting data via a web browser within a small work unit with ready built-in workflow and validation.
  • Simple reporting and visualizations.

Cons

  • Richer graphics and visualization capabilities.
  • Robust SQL interface for advanced power user querying.
  • More seamless integration with HANA 2.0 XSA based development.
We are a heavy SAP shop and it makes more sense from a data perspective to stay within the SAP ecosystem.
SAC connectivity is one of the key areas of strength, and it is nice that it has connectivity to our HANA and BW on HANA environments as well as some level of integration with BPC 10.1 on HANA, merging disparate sources is also relatively easy, and a more advanced interface would be nice for the SQL centric power user crowd.
Still learning the nuances and capabilities of data access level restriction and capabilities.
We have multiple use cases where SAC planning would be a great fit for data collection via a web browser for various business units to collaborate and review forecasting numbers for subsequent upload to APO, IBP or BPC, where more advanced planning algorithms and functions could be performed. The key is having a centralized data collection tool with power users being able to quickly model new planning scenarios and custom workflows without coding.
