Overall Satisfaction with ScienceLogic SL1

Implementation was fine. Documentation and reporting features can be improved. Some basic monitoring solutions(disk space, cpu etc.) should be included out of the box.
We use ScienceLogic SL1 to monitor our global infrastructure and maintain our SLA's. Every support personnel has it and it helps us to proactively manage and see the health of our entire plant.

In addition, we have high level status dashboard for management. Creating dashboards is easy and ScienceLogic SL1 is well suited for our event based systems monitoring.

Pros

  • Connectivity with external systems for monitoring is robust
  • Dashboards are very professional and of high quality
  • Disk and server space monitoring works great
  • Licensing is easy

Cons

  • Need advanced database monitoring and customizations
  • Customer support and training needs to be improved
  • Application logic specific monitoring is limited.
  • Automated email/reports to management don't work that well
  • Reduced cost compared to other vendor
  • Improved SLA upto 99.8% uptime for production
  • Allowed us to focus on DevOps and avoid a dedicated infra team
Geneos is more complicated and 'heavy' to setup. It requires a lot of expertise in setting up. Also the dashboards are not great. ScienceLogic SL1 works well for customer facing dashboards.

ScienceLogic SL1 is well suited for basic infra monitoring like disk space, cpu usage, log alerts etc. Its great for monitoring network related components and across different devices - windows based & linux.
ScienceLogic SL1 reporting feature needs improvement. Documentation can also be improved. It's also not suited for datacenter migration projects or where they are frequent component changes
