Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have been using Semrush for several years now, primarily for SEO, anything from keyword and topical research, backlink analysis, competitor analysis and more.

Return on Investment

I would argue Semrush doesn't have an ROI, it's the actions you take that do. As a channel, SEO has worked incredibly well for me at all companies I've been, but giving credit to the tool would be misleading.

Switching across modules is not a smooth experience, there are features lacking for in-depth analysis, and while it's understandable, there are lots of somewhat basic features being gated to higher plans.

It's definitely well suited for anyone needing an all-in-one search marketing software, and it kind of became the industry standard for that purpose. However, I see most SEO pros choosing Ahrefs and more junior people or generalists choosing Semrush. Personally, I am comfortable with both software, have a preference for Ahrefs, but Semrush is for sure a good alternative.
