Overall Satisfaction with Slack
Slack is backbone of our team communications. It keeps us in sync across projects and timezones effortlessly. As a dev team, we also use it as our event processing stream, centralizing our reporting. We make heavy use of webhooks to publish notifications such as conversions, signups, etc.
- Encourages collaboration: it's fun!
- Aggregates events from every service we use: everyone supports it
- The new calling feature is superb: the audio quality is better than Hangouts and Skype.
- Implemented unchecked, it can lead to cultural issues around butt-in-seat time. Thankfully, off-hours can be set to automatically set yourself to "away."
- I would love to see away messages implemented in the way AIM did in the late '90s.
- It's easy to overdo integrations, leading to useless noise.
- Our team members travel a lot, and we can thank Slack for the ability to do so. It doesn't matter where we are: we're always in sync.
- It's made sharing responsibilities easier: It's much harder to manage a shared email inbox.
Slack blows its competition out of the water, especially the voice call quality: it's second-to-none. Also, it has the most thorough integration support in the business.
