Overall Satisfaction with Squarespace
I use Squarespace primarily for DNS services and domain name registration. I am a researcher at a university, and I need a DNS registrar service for obtaining domain names as well as a nameserver service for modifying DNS records for experiments. I also use it to host my own personal research website.
Pros
- clean, modern-looking interface
- standard A/NS record setting is simple and foolproof
- Site building tools are topical but useful for quick building
Cons
- DNS record setting is somewhat constrained. Not all record types are supported, and the input to the record contents is limited. This makes it hard to recommend for novel DNS usages.
- Slow and unhelpful customer service.
- Certain domain names are blocked for registration, with little explanation as to why they cannot be bought
- Helped me create a great website showcasing my research; got compliments from other academics on it.
- Reduced cost for getting domain names
Squarespace is more user-friendly and sleek. I'd recommend it over Freenom for beginners and those who are more interested in running a website (instead of caring about their DNS).
