Overall Satisfaction with Tableau Desktop

I Mainly use Tableau Desktop for my data analysis work. It can connect with various data sources like excel, text files, relational data bases, cloud based data sources like salesforce, google analytics etc. Tableau Desktop helps to create dashboards, predictive modelling, functional data analysis in my profession. I think it has high scope in near future since its continuously building and updating the software with modern days requirements.

Pros

  • It helps with data visualization with interactive dashboards really well.
  • It features help with time series analysis which is very fast to explore pattern.
  • Tableau Desktop can be adapt to various industry application like sales, finance, healthcare domain etc.

Cons

  • It has less features for advance statistical analysis.
  • Tableau Desktop is clunky when it connects with python or R via scripts.
  • Its not user friendly when comes to large data file loading, it can be slow with large data set.
  • It has made our analytics work faster. our productivity has increased.
  • Tableau Desktop is not cheap.
  • non technical users has high learning curve
Tableau Desktop is best for data analyst and BI professionals. It is best for fast data explorations, wide range of data connectivity, drag and drop interface, beautiful interactive visuals. learning curve is minimum for dashboard creation. however there is strong learning curve for complex features. there is limited build-in themes. It is not ideal for large data set exploration and real time machine learning related projects.
Both power bi and Tableau Desktop has its own pros and cons. Microsoft Power BI is best to work with Microsoft products. however for fast connection with diverse range of integration with data sources Tableau Desktop is best. if you are cost sensitive power bi is best option then Tableau Desktop. for complex data analysis I would prefer Tableau Desktop over power bi.

Yes

Did Tableau Desktop live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Tableau Desktop go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Tableau Desktop again?

Yes

Tableau Desktop is great when u apply it for creating dashboards, business forecasting, monthly sales and profit analysis etc. Tableau Desktop build-in features is best to create interactive dashboards. However it sometimes can be slow responding while using large data sets. Its less usable for real time operational dashboards, heavy machine learning works, integration with kpis etc.
