Overall Satisfaction with Ubiquiti Networks UniFi

We recommend and install the Ubiquiti UniFi line of products to all our clients, the remote management capabilities have allowed us to get an internal view of clients never available before unless we sent a tech onsite. No more asking users to tell us what switch lights are doing or to unplug a POE port to reboot a device.
  • Remote management
  • Cost savings
  • Advanced features
  • Lacking direct vendor support options.
  • Using latest firmware is risky.
  • Controller features aren't always well tested before going live.
  • Unifi has been a force multiplier for us, our techs can spend more time fixing issues and less time traveling.
  • Cost is low enough that it is easy to convince clients to use it, all the features are great but if your client won't pay for them it doesn't help you.
  • Clients are happier because we can make network-wide changes while they are on the phone instead of waiting for someone to get out there.
We have tried ZyXEL, Cisco Meraki, Data, and Cloudtrax. None have provided the full feature set at anywhere near the cost.

Kerio Control, Synology DiskStation, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365)
Ubiquiti line of products is great for home and small businesses, they give the opportunity for these types of users to get advanced features without advanced cost. Managed service providers will also find the remote features are a game-changer when it comes to troubleshooting issues and making changes to a client. Often, we can send one tech to install, while another is at our office doing the configuration, and new equipment is easy to add right out of the box with almost no configuration needed. The one area I would not use UniFi is if reliability is your number one concern as firmware revisions can be buggy and need to be tested before upgrading live equipment.

Evaluating Ubiquiti Networks UniFi and Competitors

Yes - ZyXEL Firewall and Switches were the bulk of what we installed before switching to UniFi.

The remote management features with no licensing were our biggest draw to the UniFi line. We can install the equipment and manage it all from a central server we host without dealing with any licensing or being tied to the whims of a vendor-hosted central management platform.
Honestly, we are happy with our choice. As an MSP, we can swap what we offer to new clients at any time and are not stuck to upgrade cycles so we are constantly evaluating new products.
