Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use UKG Ready for payroll and HR management. We are a small-to-midsize community organization that has multiple unions, and although our payroll is relatively simple, UKG addresses multiple jobs per employee, complex scheduling needs, unification of HR process and documentation as well as high-level payroll management and reporting. We are planning on expanding our scope in the coming year by working with consultants.

Extremely granular reporting capabilities

Cons

Custom reporting is not intuitive
Learning and training is poor and has not provided our team with a way to approach our problems in a cost-effective and meaningful way
Consistent glitches in some areas result in errors that persist through multiple payrolls despite a thorough review of all settings
Reports don't live in the same place, multiple types of reports exist in multiple places with little explanation of the difference. We often build custom reports only to have them disappear or have to spend a long time trying to find them.

Return on Investment

We are still only two years into use and we have a small team, so ROI hasn't been able to be realized. It was brought in by an ex employee who perhaps sought too robust a payroll system for us.

Usability

There are many ways to get to one place, but trying to figure out where that place is can be a huge headache. The sidebar navigation is choppy and functionally challenging. The search bars (at least two) provide different results, and unless I know exactly the term I need finding what I need is not intuitive. This feeds into a larger issue I have, which is that UKG offers multiple iterations of every tool in its belt, and each one is slightly different but no one is clear as to if it is the optimal tool, specifically reports and back end modules like cost center structures.

Ease of Integration

UKG does not integrate with Sage Intacct, our accounting system, so our import to our GL is rudimentary. We spent hours and multiple sessions building an export that didn't work.
Integration with HR platforms such as our retirement providers were easier but time consuming and required a lot of time and trial to get right.

UKG Personal Experience

We implemented UKG a couple years ago. Implementation was difficult, but we built systems that worked eventually. Regardless our challenges, UKG has provided the option to centralize processes that for too long were paper or disparate electronic signatures and manual adjustments to employee profiles. It has prompted us to review our outdated and paper systems and integrate them into better workflows. Pay updates, position changes, employee elections, terminations, custom deduction amounts over periods of time, all reduce manual entry.

Alternatives Considered

I was not present for the decision for the implementation of UKG Ready. I was however present for the changeover, and UKG Ready is so much more robust and clean in terms of reporting and payroll processing. APS is delightfully simple, and I miss it for its time and processing ease. We require so fewer review cycles however to submit payroll with UKG.

Likelihood to Recommend

I might recommend UKG to a larger organization than ours. The complexity is rich, but perhaps it is too powerful a tool for what we need. That or it's a bit messy in its construction, having so many tools available but difficult to find or not working appropriately. UKG Ready processes payroll efficiently and with ease, but unless you are using a simple accounting platform it may not be able to easily integrate with yours.
