Unitrends Feature Ratings
Using Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery
45 - IT is the only department that directly uses the Unitrends appliances. However, data encompassing all departments gets backed up to them. As far as the rest of the staff is concerned (aside from IT), the backups are behind the scenes and how they work and how they are set up is unknown.
2 - Our systems administrator is the only staff member that has direct interaction with the Unitrends appliances. From time to time others have to support the offsite storage component for cross-training purposes, but for the most part everything is handled by that one individual: that is how easily maintained the Unitrends appliances are.

Evaluating Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery and Competitors
Yes - The Unitrends appliance replaced the Vembu backup product, which is software that was installed on our device. We provided the storage capacity, and Vembu handled the backup processes. There was no "archive" feature to copy the backups to an external device, which is a non-negotiable for our organization. A workaround was used during the use of the Vembu product, but it was not ideal.
- Price
- Prior Experience with the Product
We had already used Unitrends Backup appliances in the past and we were impressed with the feature set, versatility and reliability. Having a product that dose what it says it is going to brings peace of mind to the IT department, as well as C-level, because if something did happen and there was a DR scenario, we know that our data would be safe.
We do not think any changes need to be made to our evaluation process, we had already used the appliances before and were satisfied with the feature offerings, as well as price.
