Overall Best Choice Backup Appliance
Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance
Our Unitrends Recovery Backup Appliance is currently responsible for creating daily and weekly backups of all our servers at the file level. This includes our file storage, domain controller and users' files. It is also responsible for creating backups of our Microsoft SQL Server databases and Exchange server mailbox database. It is only used by the information technology department.
Pros
- Simple process for restoring files on any backup.
- Scheduling backups and adding clients is a quick and easy process.
- Reports that are emailed to me every day are informative and alert me if a backup failed.
Cons
- The inability to add additional storage to the physical appliance forced us to upgrade to a new system which was much more expensive.
- The UI can be difficult to navigate at times.
- Our Unitrends appliance has allowed us to save hours of lost work due to accidental deletion by a user.
- SQL database backups allowed us to restore a database after an accident.
- Veeam Backup & Replication
We considered Veeam during the process of selecting a new backup appliance, but at the time we did not focus on virtualization as much as we do today. We needed backups of physical and virtual systems for file-level protection. Unitrends includes all of these features in one box that is easy to deploy, create backup schedules and leave it alone. The Unitrends appliance is there in case of emergencies and is reliable when the times comes.
