Overall Satisfaction with Vasion Print
We use it to allow end-users an easy way to install printers they are allowed to use. It also helps us track usage across departments, which we are required to do for financial auditing purposes. Our campus uses a variety of devices and Vasion Print works well with all manufactures, even Apple and Microsoft devices.
Pros
- Installation of printers by the end-user
- Easy identification of printer locations
- Automatic deployment of printers based on device hostname
Cons
- CPA compatibility with Kyocera copiers
- Technical support
- More robust reporting, better ways to group users by department
- Ability to choose the specific version of CPA client installed on each device
- Semi-automated reporting, no more manually collecting records for account tracking.
- Much less help desk calls to install printers.
- Easier to automate installing printers based on computer hostname.
Users are able to freely install printers that they are allowed access to and can even print when off the network easily. The secure print holds allow users to print to shared copiers when they are at the copier so confidential information is not seen by others. I wouldn't necessarily say it totally eliminates print servers though, as you still need a server to manage the CPA client on the machines, which is needed to use almsot all the features of Vasion Print.
PaperCut actually has more features and works better than Vasion Print from a copier standpoint. In my opinion, where Vasion Print works better though is that it had better compatibility for our Apple Mac users. It also has a cool feature that lets you place printers on a map, so end-users can better find the printers close to them when installing. We chose PrinterLogic over PaperCut soley because of the better compatibility with Apple Mac.
