Overall Satisfaction with Viewpoint Vista

We use Vista for Project Management, Contracts, Subcontracts, Change Orders, Job Costing, Job Billing, AP/AR, General Ledger, and HR.
  • Saves time with compliance
  • Retrieving data and formatting reports is inefficient
Vista doesn't have an API. To get data out of Vista into other systems we rely on integration features of those systems. For instance, we export our Estimates from B2W in a file formatted B2W, not Vista. Same with timecards, we have to import a file created and formatted by the other system for Vista and use custom import templates. Combining data from different systems into one report is very difficult, separate process that relies on SSIS and not anything in Vista.
Vista has tons of reports that we use to track job progress and billing. Most of it isn't what I would call real-time as lots of data needs to be imported from other systems.
I didn't choose any of these products, they were all in place when I started. Spreadsheet Server is easier than creating and manipulating reports in Vista. B2W is used for field logs, equipment management, and bids/estimates. B2W Track and Maintain are easier to configure, is easier to use, and have a mobile app. Estimate is organized and integrates with FDOT bid letting process. The B2W db's are simplier designs and easier to work in, also uses SSRS for reports. Primavera is used for scheduling. We use pVault to manage AP and connect that to Vista.

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Viewpoint Vista again?

No

Vista is best suited to store data, that's about it. It isn't easy to learn or train on, the user interface is outdated, reports are all made to be printed and aren't interactive, finding and retrieving data isn't intuitive, there are no user dashboards, importing data is cumbersome, and there is no API. I rarely use the reports in the program, easier to query the db directly to get what I need.
