Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used to use WatchGuard as our primary firewall, as well as for smaller sites. Our primary firewall has changed, however, we still use WatchGuard at 4 other sites. It is a fairly easy firewall to manage that is capable of also providing web filtering.

Pros and Cons

Browser based GUI interface
Solid hardware that seems to last well.

WatchGuard System Manager can be a little clunky, but the web-based interface is easy.

Return on Investment

The product lasts, all we have had to do is renew the license and keep going.

I have not had a scenario that WatchGuard was not cable of.

Alternatives Considered

Cisco ASA

I currently use both WatchGuard and Cisco ASA's. WatchGuard is easier.

Likelihood to Recommend

I like to use this for small networks such as a public internet for a library, or a computer lab at a senior center. Provides good basic firewall out of the box and can be used to block categories for web filtering.
