WatchGuard... The Good, The Bad, and the Cool Little Red Boxes!
Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard Network Security
We use a WatchGuard M500 at our corporate office. We use M370s at two of our branch offices where we keep our phone and backup servers. We use T35s at 12 branch offices, and we use XTM25s at the remaining 5 branch offices. We upgrade and renew in groups, to keep from getting billed for 20 devices at one time. So the biggest challenge is keeping up with renewing subscriptions on which device, and applying the right feature key to the right device.
Pros
- Support is handled particularly well, they are always polite and helpful. They make sure you are happy with the resolution. What helps me the most is you can schedule a time for support to call. I can plan to be at one of our field offices at a certain time and schedule support to call me at that time. instead of me calling them and waiting on hold until a technician is freed up.
- Webblocker helps me save time blocking undesirable sites with an easy to configure list. Together with Spam blocker and Gateway Anti Virus along with there other apps, WatchGuard helps keep my users safe whether at Corporate headquarters or in a branch office.
Cons
- Feature Keys and the renewing process is bulky and worrisome, especially for 20 or more boxes.
- Having forgotten a password, it would have been nice if support could have remotely connected and reset password.
- In the simplest terms they keep the bad guys out! No ransomware; very little malware. Saves us money! They do what we pay them to do. We have paid them for the last 14 years because the security works.
- The only negative I can think of is that it is time consuming applying the features keys on 20 devices.
We have purchased all our devices and license thru Insight, and have been pleased with the results. I tell them what I need and (if needed) they will get a WatchGuard security specialist on the line to discuss our needs and resolve any issues. If it is just a simple renewal they place the order and it is done... All except for the feature keys...
Yes, we have 20 sites and they all use a single WatchGuard box. If we had to have multiple boxes, the expense and management of each site increase.
WatchGuard's interface was easier to use than SonicWall. The previous IT supervisor had a WatchGuard device in place when I started, and after learning about WatchGuard's interfaces, the training videos, and other support, it was a no brainer to stay with WatchGuard.
