Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard Network Security

We use WatchGuard Network Security to secure all clients networks. We utilize the firewalls to restrict DNS access, block ports and implement additional security measures such as content filtering, Gateway antivirus, Intrusion Prevention, spam blocker. If additional security is needed we upgrade our clients to the Total Security Suite for added protection.

Pros

  • SSL VPN is always reliable
  • Firewall policies are easy to configure
  • Basic Security Suite adds useful features

Cons

  • Bridging interfaces is a bit complicated
  • Wireless models require more expensive licenses
  • DNS Watch and Intelligent AV are only available on Total Security Suite packages
  • We have standardized our network security plans
  • We have given our clients peace of mind for their network security
  • We have cut update and managetime in half by using it as a standard
We are currently WatchGuard Silver partners.
We were already familiar with WatchGuard technologies prior to implementing them. After we became a Silver Partner, we made it our company standard for firewalls to protect client's infrastructure. We were extremely satisfied with implementing new features in the Total Security Suite after learning how to configure them. They provided labs that we could go through to figure out how to configure all of the features correctly.
The basic security suite is our go to for new clients. All the applications that are included support our main requirements for network security. This package is affordable and sufficient for most client offices. We do upgrade some clients to the Total Security Suite if they require additional security measures.
We have used Cisco Firewalls and Ubiquiti in the past but we preferred the interface and ease of use of the WatchGuard firewalls. The Cisco devices are complex to configure and leave room for error. The Ubiquiti devices did not have enough features to provide the level of security that we wanted for our clients.

We use WatchGuard at all client offices to ensure a baseline security is met. These products require renewal of services to maintain all of their features. If you do not want to maintain licensing I would not recommend using this firewall. They are also great to use for clients that need VPN capability.
