Overall Satisfaction with Widen

I am the primary admin for our digital asset management system, which serves as the source of truth for internal & training documents and approved marketing, creative and brand assets, and as the CDN for our website. These assets are available to all users within the organization, as well as select brand partners.
  • Customer service & support
  • Out-of-the-box functionality
  • Powerful search features
  • Reliability
  • Useful API
  • Inconsistent user interface
  • Analytics features lacking/unreliable
  • Limited customization
  • Dynamic content delivery
  • SSO & user/role management
  • Flexible metadata & taxonomy structure
  • Reduced unnecessary "versions" of siloed brand assets
  • Encouraged self-service of external parties
  • Improved brand partner workflows
We hope that Widen will allow us to expand the breadth of content we use it for, from brand & creative assets to other departments (HR, IT, etc.) if and when the need arises. As a company under a corporate umbrella, we also aim to combine - or at least align - our DAM system with other branches of the organization at large.
Acquia DAM (Widen)'s support team is second to none. A dedicated Customer Success Manager is typically available to engage in a lengthy discussion around best practices if needed, and users can initiate a chat session with the support staff at any time from the platform; they are generally very friendly, helpful, and quick to respond. Acquia DAM (Widen) also hosts a variety of user groups and webinars that allow for industry discussion, networking, and resource sharing.
In the past year, we've been able to cut down significantly on the number of assets such as logos that are needed, thanks to the platform's ability to quickly surface a master asset and dynamically deliver it in any desired format or size.
While I was not involved in the selection of Acquia DAM (Widen), as a previous user of AEM, I find Acquia DAM (Widen) to be much more user-friendly and functional out of the box. AEM seems to allow a higher degree of customization but requires a higher development cost. While it may tie in more seamlessly with other Adobe products and cloud solutions, Acquia DAM (Widen) suits the needs of a smaller organization with a much lower barrier to entry.

Yes

Acquia DAM (Widen) is a fantastic solution for small-to-mid-size organizations looking for immediate results. The user interface and admin options are largely intuitive and easy to understand, and while it requires nearly zero development, their support team is extremely responsive and helpful regarding questions about functionality or best practices. Changes to the setup can quickly be made on the fly, as organizational situations & shifts inevitably arise. The API allows for easy integration with PIMs and other systems, and if needed, their own integrated PIM is likely good for companies with somewhat limited product volume. While 90%+ of what you'll likely need is available right out of the box, it may not be suitable for very large organizations that require a ton of customization. There is a good amount of configuration with the tools that do exist, but in many ways, you'll need to work within that framework (or build custom solutions that tie into the system's API) if you have very strict needs. The system is highly scalable, though, so if the functionality & performance you see with a small subset of assets works well for you, it should work just as well as the asset volume & user base increase.
