Overall Satisfaction with Widen

We use Acquia DAM (Widen) as our digital repository for logos, photos, videos, and other documents so that users have access to the intended versions of files. Acquia DAM (Widen) makes it easy to share files within our company and with external colleagues who do not need an account to view specific files curated for their use.
  • Categorizing, tagging, and searching for files
  • Sharing files individually or in a branded portal (web page)
  • Converting file types
  • When sharing files in a collection, they must be downloaded individually and cannot be all be downloaded at once
  • Acquia DAM (Widen) seems to focus on adding big, new features rather than getting some of the smaller things right
  • Alternate preview images (thumbnails) cannot be pulled from images existing in the DAM and must be uploaded separately and individually
  • Alternate preview images for videos cannot be selected by using the playahead to choose a frame
  • Assets shared in a portal cannot be placed in a custom order or in alpha order by the selected alternate display name
  • When expiring a user account, there is not a good way to ensure the preservation of any personal collections that an individual user-created which might be the basis for assets in a portal
  • Metadata field values cannot be edited in bulk or buy spreadsheet upload
  • The "new" upload experience is confusing and not an improvement over the original process
  • Email addresses collected for access to a portal requiring an access code cannot be reviewed
  • Storing assets
  • Finding assets
  • Sharing assets
  • Having one repository and "source of truth" has been key
  • Our teams are much more efficient now that files are at their fingertips
  • Collaborating with external colleagues is much more seamless
At this time, I only intend to grow our storage capacity if and when our limit is reached.
My post-sales experience with Acquia DAM (Widen) has been inconsistent, having been shuffled around to many account managers. When providing feedback for future enhancements, I'm always told that they understand the use case and how the current product falls short, but the development focus seems to always be on big integrations and are products rather than addressing the low-hanging fruit that is intuitive and would give the standard product more complete capabilities.
In my opinion, there is no competition between Acquia DAM (Widen) and MediaSilo. Acquia DAM (Widen) is much more intuitive and allows users to do so much more with the assets in their system.

Would you buy Acquia DAM (Widen) again?

Yes

Acquia DAM (Widen) succeeds at making it easy to store, locate, and share digital assets in many ways - whether discovering assets by search, sharing curated assets in a branded portal, receiving a collection of assets, or using a quick link to an asset. However, Acquia DAM (Widen) has recently focused on innovations with their application to integrate it with other tools, but they would be better served by focusing on making their fundamental product best in class. They have low-hanging fruit in features that should have already been standard that they have yet to address.
