ADP TotalSource is my company's PEO. Being an HR department of one, the support I received from the was worth its weight in gold. They have so many resources already in place that I was able to make use of instead of researching and creating myself. One part of having them as a PEO that I wasn't a fan of, was the limitations we had in choosing our benefit carriers. They had contracts with two health carriers to choose from. So if we weren't happy with rates, there was only so much room to negotiate, at the carriers knew that.

FinancialForce HCM

FinancialForce HCM is well suited when it comes to any of our workers.[They] can request time off, and immediately their manager gets an email notification to approve or reject their request - this saves paper and saves time while still having a paper trail for the request.
The fact that it's a managed packaged - we've requested a lot of customization that couldn't be done which makes it hard to meet our needs.

Pros

  • The prebuilt reports were excellent
  • TotalSource came with the Employee Service Center support - the best part of TS
  • The software integrated with our time keeping system which made payroll a little easier

Cons

  • While the prebuilt reports were great, I would have to contact TS in order to get a custom report. This only happened a few times because like I said, they had a variety of prebuilt reports that fit my needs
  • iReports was implemented and it became more difficult to find employee paystubs and find YTD pay

Alternatives Considered

We use ADP simply to to track pay for employees. We really like more of the functionality of Workday as it is really easy to import org charts and track performance. The graphics and appearance of these sections are also really nice! We also use Workday to track time off as it was more popular among employees to use when we asked them to compare more options. However, ADP is much better at tracking pay and because it carries information over from previous jobs, employees really like this as well!

From a pricing perspective, FinancialForce HCM is very competitive in both licensing and implementation costs. Ultimately having an application that was native to Salesforce drove our final decision. While we were hoping to find an application that included the ability to process payroll internally we settled on the process of linking to a 3rd party vendor. The other options were either too pricey or lacked some of the key functionality we required.

  • It has helped us to keep track of various financial information for employees and this has helped our HR department.
  • We were trying to find a system that was more user-friendly and many people are able to use this pretty easily.
  • We found more cost effective methods to do absence management and goal setting because this system was too expensive and cumbersome for us.
