Airtable is an incredibly powerful tool for basic spreadsheet tasks used in your departments, especially if those spreadsheets are being shared and used by multiple departments. It's a better designed spreadsheet, [compared to] what Excel and Google Sheets offers. [It] has multiple view options so that each team can see the data in the way that makes the most sense for their team.

InEight

The In Eight software is best suited for large business models that require a lot of information at your fingertips. The program enables larger firms to adequately bid complex projects that require multiple estimators working in the estimate at the same time. The software would be less suited for smaller firms that can put an estimate together in a relatively short period of time by just using an excel spreadsheet. My advice would be that if your company is going to grow above $20 million per year in gross revenue, you should be looking at using some type of estimating program.

  • Airtable has the best customization features out there. They allow you to customize you spreadsheets or tables in a variety of formats. They allow you to customize a variety of field types, field sizes and various colors.
  • Airtable has a great collaboration feature that makes it easy to share and grant access to tables and a variety of information.
  • Airtable has great compatibilities that allows you to directly upload spreadsheets from excel into a customizable table.
  • Airtable is easy to teach and understand quickly, and does not take time for someone who is not technically advanced to understand

  • InEight documents allows our organisation to track the progress of workflows, providing timely notification of any delays or bottlenecks.
  • InEight allows us to management scope and cost change with the change management functionality.
  • InEight Document provides excellent integration with Outlook which significantly improves user satisfaction.

  • Pricing model: we don't like how we have to pay per user.
  • Calendar view: we wish the calendar view was better, or if there were different types of calendar views. Right now there is just one.
  • Complicated: some parts of the app are a little complicated.

InEight

  • We would like to be able to workflow documents without them being restrained or maybe have a view that shows restrained and unrestrained as latest/current. We treat our Project Contractor's "As Received" documents as the latest/current whether we've completed our review or not.
  • We'd like users not to be able to reply to the transmittal system generated email address as emails go into unregistered mail
  • Documents - Comments Register - Request to have Default values available for specific fields
  • When we issue reviewed Contractor documents to Teambinder - External Contacts they are required to download the document, download comments (if applicable) and if we've made redline mark ups click on Red Magnifying glass and print document to PDF (and this won't include any comments made with mark up note). They could end up with 3 separate files per document. Also, on the sent transmittal after you select "Download all Transmittal files" button, the "Download All" button only downloads the documents and the "Download Comments" button doesn't include comments made by redline markup. I don't believe this supports the "single source of truth" and could easily lead to confusion. How can I be confident our minor service providers, third parties, government departments etc. will download and use the correct "as returned" version of the document, for example, if it's a drawing we've assigned review code 2 or 3 too they need the drawing and comments to use. TeamBinder document review options consist of:
  • Download: (mark up a hardcopy scan and upload it as an attachment), Redlines: mark up (red-line) the document and make text comments and Text comments: Click the Add/Edit link in the Comments column to add electronic comments to the documents. Teambinder transmittal "Download Comments" should include ALL comments no matter which combination of review options was used. We don't use redlines as we cannot ask our external recipients to produce their own PDF's.

We will 10/10 renew the use of Airtable because it has brought great value to our team. Not only is Airtable affordable, but it's also user-friendly and helps our team be efficient. We no longer need to rely on Excel spreadsheets being passed from person to person via email. Furthermore, we aren't dealing with corrupt Excel spreadsheets and the need to salvage data when a file is accidentally altered.

Some features with InEight's TeamBinder are worthy of single use, however the review feature and subsequent revision and version numbering could be improved. We will be aiming to roll out the package to encompass our internal documentation in the near future and will be in a better position to judge the usability after that point in time.

It's such a friendly program to use, and there's just so many resources available to people trying to learn it or build new things. Their support is great, and they make it easy to find answers to your questions. It's easy to use but difficult to master, that might be a better way to put it.

InEight's TeamBinder is a cloud based service and is therefore accessible from anywhere with an internet connection. All staff members are able to perform any duties required from the office or at home, in the review workflow to get documents to clients and ensuring that the document meets our internal standards for document presentation.

We find support easy to find, responsive and knowledgeable. In addition to a large selection of well-done help articles and webinars, there is a forum with quick support coming from Airtable staff and other users. We haven't had any issues in getting the information and support that we've needed.

InEight have the ServiceNow ticketing system, which should improve the transparency of outstanding issues. However there is an inconsistency in advice within the help desk support staff (Kevin is excellent) and depending on who is handling the issue often our staff need to follow up with the help desk.

Training all users was an important part of the implementation, which did take considerable time and effort. At first glance without training, the content calendar can be overwhelming because of the amount of data. The features within Airtable seem to be endless but our team was able to identify the most important to be successful.

Since the original inception, I have been required to overhaul the system so that it is more user friendly and combines both aspects of our business, documentation and drawings. Being able to control revision and version numbering has been a key struggle that only staff training has been able to mark this as complete.

Airtable combines the simplicity of a spreadsheet with the possibilities that come with a database, all within one tool. We have chosen it after a short evaluation. It is incredibly easy to use after a short training, making it a great tool compared to the typical spreadsheet-based apps.

  • The ROI is simple: Airtable has created a more efficient workplace. We have fewer meetings, certainly. But any meetings we do have are much more efficient and impactful. Everyone walks in having used Airtable to prepare for the meeting (uploading needed docs, etc.), and the meeting is held using Airtable as the agenda. Airtable is updated and continues to be used after the meeting, so everyone stays on the same page.
  • Airtable also makes planning events much more streamlined. Contracts, rental agreements, rosters, etc. are uploaded. Dates are set with reminders. People know what they are responsible for planning the event and for what role they will play during the event.
