I particularly like how the web apps allow you to create and share content with reviewers and collaborators, collect feedback, and communicate with stakeholders directly. However, I wish it was easier to develop and apply brand-specific templates without recreating them every time.
As a real estate services company with properties (& employees) in six states, Totara LMS is well suited for implementing and our employee learning platform to our many team members that work remotely and cannot benefit from regular in-person learning courses. Totara LMS's comprehensive and customizable reporting system also allows us to accurately review and tell the story of employee performance and talent development, while tailoring this reporting to the needs of different internal stakeholders.
Although you can do a lot with Storyline, it does require a bit of a learning curve and a new designer would not easily be able to get started. Sometimes, if you don't design it correctly, your users might get stuck such as with a "submit" button that doesn't work, etc. The program files can be big and clunky.
Rise is easy to use and looks nice but can use a bit more functionality. After you have made a few courses, you wish you could have more functionality and design, although Articulate does keep adding to it.
Being a market leader, Articulate has just reaped the benefits of its stellar product. But they haven't done much to introduce newer products into the market. Soon other companies may come up with something that could cause them to lose their unique position.
Reporting can be a little inflexible - sometimes, the report cannot be customized to have all the columns you need as they are not available from that area of the LMS.
Graphic reporting needs some more work to be a bit more professional looking.
Articulate 360 is an essential tool in our organisation's workflow. The money that we make through its use, far outweighs the cost of renewing our licenses. Articulate 360 has exposed us to new clients that we may not have otherwise encountered if we did not subscribe to the Articulate services.
I rate the overall usability of Articulate 360 with an 8, because of the many possibilities the software offers me. The software ensures that almost anyone without knowledge of coding can develop an interactive online course in a fairly simple and pleasant way.
It took forever to get someone to respond--either by email or by phone--directly to a pricing and licensing question. It is unfortunate that a company that has such potential as a streamlined course building/authoring tool not only missed the boat with service but also proves itself to be all fluff and no substance.
Easy to access both local support and support/advice from other Totara LMS users as we keep in regular contact as a part of the totara government users group. Our vendor also keeps in touch with this group and a lot of knowledge is shared. It's easy to access the Totara LMS users academy, and one of my administrators has also set up a local forum where they ask each other questions and share knowledge as well. Our vendor is easy to access via our support plan and we have monthly catch-ups with our account manager where we hear about anything new coming up.
It is pretty straight forward and easy to implement is you are already creating eLearning. If you have old courses created in other versions of Articulate I recommend you update them to the new version even though it is not necessary (especially From Storyline3 to 360) but if you don't you may find difficulty opening and keeping things straight
Adobe Captivate has a ton of incredible functionality. You're able to fully customize user experiences through interactive elements, buttons, transitions, hiding and activating various elements, and so on. But overall Captivate is insanely difficult for someone new to the tool to learn. Most of what I learned about Captivate, I had to do by trial and error or by watching Paul Wilson's YouTube videos. I find Articulate 360 to be far more intuitive
We've been able to provide compliance training on topics such as personal safety, food safety, HIPPA, sexual harassment & workplace bullying, and active shooter to all of our associates (3400+) for the first time in the company's history without having to outsource all of the work to contractors, saving the business countless dollars.
The benefits are difficult to quantify, however this is the first time my company (a retail food business) has ever been able to deliver basic food safety training to every associate in our stores - whether they are bagging groceries or stocking produce or slicing meats. This ensures that a baseline level of knowledge is provided for every food handler at our business.
