Auvik is a fantastic product for MSPs looking to more effectively and efficiently monitor and manage their clients' network infrastructure. It is a great fit for MSPs serving SMBs. It is a less good fit for very small IT Support companies, clients with fewer than five network devices, or very large enterprises looking for an in-house network management solution.

NETSCOUT

It’s best for troubleshooting issues that require a packet level analysis. By having source/destination you can have a view into how the packets are traversing the network. If alerts/baselines are set up it can help identify something out of the norm. Very useful for VoIP applications as well. Would not recommend for small scale environments.

  • Auvik is the big pic tool of choice for network diagramming, helps layout of our network infrastructure, and we'll know immediately the status of the devices that are successfully communicating, and those that may have, for example, credentials issues.
  • Auvik's "Traffic Insights" are key accelerators for intuitively isolating and resolving traffic-related issues quickly and easily, and the historical information makes it simpler to deduce what aspects may need replacement, capacity improvement, or possibly even re-architecture.
  • Auvik integration tools are excellent solution enhancers - that are of particular interest to our company, as we make use of MS Teams and Connectwise products; we would like to see some features to integrate to ServiceNow as well.

  • NetScout nGeniusONE can help to deep dive into the packet layer, help to identify the real network and service performance problems in the protocol layer. We have been using NetScout nGeniusONE as the main monitoring solution for the mobile network for many years.
  • I have recently use NetScout nGeniusONE to support problem troubleshooting for a customer issue complaining of slow application connection into our Datacenter services. it was easy to use NetScout nGeniusONE to capture the problematic connection sessions by using various type of filters and export a pcap file for further analysis.
  • I‘ve also use NetScout nGeniusONE to investigate an NBN connection issue which was intermittent and hard to capture, however, by using NetScout nGeniusONE it was easy to go back to the history capture and logs, so we won't miss any important leads.

  • Install and launch instructions, especially regarding shared collectors can be difficult to follow.
  • The branded colors of gray and black lines can be hard to understand and things with a higher contrast like green for good connections might be beneficial.
  • Persistent filters on the traffic insights dashboard would be useful.

      The program can be a bit unwieldy at times, however the majority of information is displayed in a readable and friendly way. The maps and popup information box from the bottom can be harder to use on a smaller screen but on a 1080p+ display tends to work fine.

      It provides a lot of useful information, but it's not always easy/intuitive to find it. It really needs to get a fully functional API integrated to support automation and integration with other monitoring and analytics tools to enable faster decision making. On the other hand, it gathers a lot of useful information from complex networks that are useful for capacity management and faster incident isolation and resolution.

      I came onboard with Solarwinds already installed and running. It took me some time to learn my way around the Web interface. Nice product but a little convoluted for me. We weren't using it to it's full potential. It did work well for network monitoring, and configuration backups. Compared to Auvik, the interface of Auvik is cleaner and easier to navigate. Not needing to connect to the VPN to view is also a big advantage. We evaluated both Darktrace and LogRhythm before evaluating Auvik. Both of these products were impressive but required a little more configuration time at initial setup. The biggest reason for deciding on Auvik was the price to be honest. Auvik beat the others pricing by over 50% easily. As impressive as the others were, after evaluating Auvik, we were skeptical that the price would be too high just like the others. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised and was a no brainer on our final decision to pursue Auvik

      Majority of vendors on the market at the time only handle a piece of network instrumentation. Netscout covered all the bases which meet our company's requirements for "One throat to choke" rule. For the market we are in its nice to have a local team that can be onsite the same day if needed.

      Auvik has worked on sites with 15+ offices connected with VPN's and we have not encountered any issues with the monitoring. On larger sites the map can be a bit cumbersome to read however it can be cleaned up easily with device filters.
