Splunk supports IT operations analytics with the Splunk IT Service Intelligence premium offering, a software application available to subscribers to Splunk Cloud or Splunk Enterprise log analytics and SIEM platforms.
We moved over to Checkmk from Nagios which felt like a natural evolution at the time as the raw version is based on Nagios, I vaguely not having any major issues moving over at the time. We still use the Raw version but we are planning to move to the enterprise version in the …
In our organization which is a mash up of different hardware, software it was important to use an independent tool that wasn’t linked to one manufacturer incase a piece of hardware was dropped from support for example, we also value open-source software highly in our field. It’s important to in our IT environment to be able to customize and tweak software that we run. We don’t use the cloud monitoring aspect so Cannot comment on that side of the software.
If anyone looking for the monitoring system for the infrastructure this is the go-to tool which monitors all infrastructure related components from server health to Networking and update us with mails and can be easily integrated with multiple other tools as needed for example PagerDuty , Also this suits good both on premises and cloud environments as well. If we are managing complex environment this tool for monitoring is best one.
Splunk ITSI is a great tool (and toolbox) for combining together numerous and varied monitoring regimes to bring more holistic analysis and reduce alert fatigue. By leveraging the Splunk ITSI service and KPI modeling regime, ecosystem telemetry can be turned into a more reliable, clearer, high-level perspective on the current state of your components and services.
This tool has been has been of great use and learning , offering exceptional ease of use, scalability, and detailed reporting. It has a lot of customization options and proactive monitoring which have significantly improved our infrastructure management. It's UI & functions are good. Also has built in templates for various end points. It also provides graphical reports. With a Dashboard you can monitor easily
We have replaced our monitoring platform with Splunk & ITSI, and with the success, it's seen at our organization thus far we would be hard-pressed to pivot to another tool. Frankly, our business partners and application teams love Splunk & ITSI.
Overall Checkmk is a great product that is made and ran by a European company that is open source and highly customizable, great support if needed. On prem support is a must for our organization which Checkmk supports. Our organization has been using Checkmk for over 5 years now Performance of the software runs excellent on its own Linux server, for any company with a good Linux admin, you can have a lot of un tweaking and creating custom checks for every aspect of your environment.
We are using Nagios XI in our organization primarily for monitoring all our application servers and databases, this is helping us in addressing all the infrastructure issues in advance by alerting us when it any server hits the threshold as per the initial parameter setup also it has free tier which helps for small scale applications monitoring to save some expenses.
Splunk IT Service Intelligence (ITSI) is a platform with extended functionality and provides various functionalities which can be utilized to improve the efficiency and accuracy in analyzing the data and detecting the attacks.
During POC, pre-planning, and implementation, we have had interactions with numerous folks at Splunk. Everyone from sales & engineering to markets analysts to specific IT component SMEs, and a small professional services engagement to get started. They have all been exceptionally helpful and go above and beyond the call of duty. They actively reach out to ensure success is being realized and find ways to help proactively, instead of having to simply open support cases with the vendor.
I have been participated in the few implementations, and I would say its bit complex when its come to initial setup once its set post that its easy to manage
Checkmk free version is far superior to PRTG free version. For the paid versions PRTG was more efficient and easier to use. Checkmk provides unlimited services on their free version while PRTG is limited. We like to use the free version to avoid monthly or annual costs while still utilizing the same SNMP features.
Cost efficiency is the main reason which we opted [for] Nagios as we were previously using IDERA tool with comprehensive database monitoring solutions, but the slow performance we are getting while monitoring the instance of the database.
Splunk has raised itself as a platform not just as a tool unlike other products in the market. If I talk about Moogsoft it also has similar capabilities but Splunk ITSI has more visibility and its GUI is making a different impact on the users. ServiceNow and Splunk are equally capable products however Splunk seems to have more tech-savvy people tools than ServiceNow.
We have installed Nagios XI for our monitoring system and with this we are managing around 600 servers in total and not seen any major issues with its scalability we can scale it as much as we require and also installed on various applications servers and working as expected
Splunk ITSI has reduced the number of alerts exposed to our Network Operations Center by 100x while increasing the context around outages.
Splunk ITSI has increased the accuracy of our incident detection by leveraging the Event Analytics system to weigh the behavior of the many characteristics of each component together instead of independently.
Splunk ITSI has reduced our incident MTTR (mean time to restore) by detecting issues faster, presenting them more clearly, and surfacing the salient details about the underlying issue.
