Digital River vs. Oracle Utilities Customer Care and Billing

Well suited if you are wanting to implement a solution with minimal staff or resources to support a large project such as E-Commerce software delivery.

Oracle Customer Care and Billing is well suited for smaller to mid size companies. I don't believe that it is structured in a way, currently, that is easy to use for larger utilities. For smaller to mid size utilities, with less data and customers, Oracle Customer Care and Billing will perform quicker and appear less cluttered. The utility I work at serves 600k+ customers.

• Digital River's email marketing arm has always been top notch. They are very connected with their customers, quick to alert us to any problems they are experiencing and respond if we bring something to their attention.
• The Global Commerce platform has grown leaps and bounds in the last few years. Its great having a cloud based ecommerce platform that can be accessed securely from any computer in the world.
• Worldwide payments continues to be a Digital River strong point. They are continually investigating and and doing the work necessary to new countries and locales to their platform.

• It is highly configurable.
• It is highly extendable and customizable.
• Its base batch programs allow you to perform most billing functions with no intervention.

• Their flexibility and customizability are lacking. Changes to our cart or store require a lot of lead time discussions and development time.
• They have many strange UI implementations for things. One search bar is a wildcard match, while another is a string match. One setting might break your product, or be editable once, but you cannot change it after that one time.

• As much as I believe CCB is a user-friendly interface, I also believe it has room to be even simpler and easier to use and navigate.

N/A I wasn't the person that implemented or recommended Digital River. But from an eCommerce standpoint I liked the organization overall and would recommend it.

We spent a lot of time reviewing the Oracle products and we have invested a lot of time, money and resources into utilizing it. It is a good product and we are happy with how effective it has been for us. Good Choice!

Previously, my company was on an aging mainframe system. The cost and effort to move to Oracle Customer Care and Billing, as well as integrate with the Oracle Utility MDM and MWM modules, was done out of necessity but also larger external acceptance and innovation. By this, I mean that Oracle's product line was growing quicker with newer features than the competitor we weighed (SAP).
