Discord

Discord is great for communication in the office. With everyone working remotely, it can be hard to lean over to tell someone about something you've been working on. We can use discord channels to communicate with a whole team or direct messaging to communicate with someone specifically on a particular issue. I have been using Discord for many years and have found it a valuable tool in all things communication-based.

MediaFire

MediaFire is suitable for individual users that want to store and maybe share files. It has a good initial space in the free version that can be enough for most users. The same applies for small teams that want to store documents (text, presentations) and share it between members (FileDrop features can help increase collaboration and productivity). If you have a big team or want to store big files you have to upgrade to the business or pro version (the price is interesting).

Cons

Discord

  • Random call quality drops
  • Access to more emotes without paying
  • More color schemes

MediaFire

  • The 10GB Overall File Storage Limit. I really don't like this and I wish it were a 10GB limit per file. But I understand Mediafire wants to have some sort of limit with the Free accounts.

Support Rating

Discord

Discord 9.3
Based on 3 answers
I have very rarely had an issue with Discord that I needed to contact support about, but when I have, support has been very quick about reaching back out to me and assisting me in resolving my issue. They read what you say and respond to it with intelligent and helpful responses. Nothing is more frustrating when you try communication with the support of a company and they don't actually read what you have to say or what your issue is. Luckily, Discord takes the time necessary to evaluate problems on an individual basis and assist you based on the problems you're facing.

Alternatives Considered

Discord

Discord is basically the version of Skype that you've always wanted. It makes it easy for you to chat with your friends, video call them, and make conference calls. It's a MUCH quicker system and does not seem to have such an impact on my hardware as well. Discord is doing things right when it comes to a chat system.

MediaFire

All of these solutions stack up pretty well but there are some differences between them. MediaFire is very easy to use and manage files and documents. With a 10 GB you can do many things and share many documents with the team or the department which is what made us decide to use it officially in our team.

Return on Investment

Discord

  • It's a free service as a user so it's a great return on investment!
Alex Pegg | TrustRadius Reviewer

MediaFire

  • It has allowed me to easily share files with clients and friends
  • No computer client does make things a little slower/more complicated to upload to the cloud
  • Allows me to easily work on a project with someone else and recover a previous file in case of mistakes
