Considered Both Products
DocuSign CLM
Chose DocuSign CLM
DocuSign CLM, formerly SpringCM, was a superior solution when I purchased it two years ago. It is still driving improvements for the company (as of last night's check-in with my old team).

Chose Ironclad
Ironclad is a well-designed product, especially for a very configurable workflow designer and team collaboration feature. In addition, DocuSign has a critical issue, which is a multi-instance account issue. If you have multiple contracts with DocuSign including design and CLM …

DocuSign
DocuSign is useful for collecting electronic signatures on isolated documents and packets that are administered separately or integrated into another system. DocuSign is integrated into our onboarding system, Paylocity, which is where the employee completes all onboarding tasks required for employment. Integrating DocuSign with Paylocity allows us to send documents that require more than one signature along with other onboarding tasks, which makes for a less confusing onboarding experience for the worker. DocuSign also allows us to automatically run E-Verify from the integrated Form I-9 Document, which saves us lots of time onboarding each employee.

Ironclad
IronClad works great for organizations that have to deal with a lot of legal agreements at the same time, it works great for having a legal team reviewing and modifying the same legal document in a single place, and the comments in the workflow, and the approval functionality allows keeping track of the changes and assign accountability.

Cons
DocuSign
  • Increase sending limit for initial plans
  • Faster return for client service requests
  • When correcting a document, no new email is sent for notification of an update. The clients have to go back to the old document, and it feels uncomfortable for them.

  • Once you add someone into a workflow there is no way to remove them. It would be nice to be able to get out of a workflow or remove someone.
  • The "assignment" function could be more clear for those individuals who don't regularly use Ironclad. Perhaps prompting them on how to upload a signed agreement if they are not the owner of the workflow.

Ironclad
The platform works great, the user interface is simple and clean, and very intuitive to use. Having different sections for completed or in progress workflows is really helpful, but I wish the title given to the different workflows could be easily modified in order to better identify the legal documents and workflows that are being developed with our different partners

Adobe Acrobat Sign was a more confusing process compared to DocuSign CLM. Acrobat presented signature abilities, yet sometimes this was electronic and sometimes this was done manually. Additionally, it is difficult to send and track the document when it goes to more than one signatory.

Ironclad
IronClad is a comprehensive platform that allows legal teams, cross functional teams and approvers to keep track of the suggestions and changes made to legal agreements. It keeps everything in a single place, however it lacks the simplicity and practicality of DocuSign throughout the signing process, so we usually have to use both platforms to complete a legal workforce

Return on Investment
DocuSign
  • Positive - has helped us track renewals which allows us to get out of "bad" contracts or renew "good" ones.
  • Negative - we had hoped for it to help us determine which terms and conditions we have agreed to in other contracts. This has made contract review remain a lengthy process.
  • Positive - We are now able to find all of our contracts which has helped us get out of unnecessary contracts (which positively impacts finances).

  • Positive - Increased efficiency, as all work into the legal department flows into Ironclad. We can see where resources are being spent and which internal business partners are utilizing the legal department the most.
  • Positing - Better internal business partner service. We are able to communicate directly with our internal partners as to the status of their request and keep them apprised where we are in the negotiation process, etc.
