Monitoring and alerts are good security features. Cloud platforms are well suited if the organization's operations are across the globe, as the cloud saves networking and other costs. But if the organization is small, then it is not well suited. In the case of a small organization, it is better to use other economic platforms.

Well suited to environments where IT staff need to access multiple servers/systems at the same time, cutting down on time wasted opening multiple windows. Not so useful for users that only need to access one system remotely, as most of its functions are largely unused in that case.

Pros
GoTo (formerly LogMeIn)
  • I can connect my laptop to a network router or switch and use GoTo Resolve to allow Engineers to make changes without divulging passwords for security reasons.
  • Help end users with new programs and show them how to use them remotely.
  • Fix
  • Trouble shoot computer problems remotely without needing to drive to the location of the computer.

  • Easy to organize and group servers.
  • Many different protocols for remote access.
  • The ability to make use of external applications for non-directly supported protocols.
  • Servers can inherit settings from nodes above so you can set up properties once making adding new servers/devices very quick.
  • Easy to export and share config with new team members (be mindful of what you do with passwords though).

Cons
GoTo (formerly LogMeIn)
  • The file transfer functionality could definitely use some work. Missing the simplicity that other solutions such as GoTo Assist offered where transferring a file was as simply as dragging and dropping.
  • The file browsing system when connected to a remote workstation could be more intuitive and easier to use.
  • Sometimes the boxes that have to be acknowledged by the end user pop up behind other windows and can be difficult for them to locate in a timely manner.

I would say yes, we would definitely renew, everyone likes it in the IT dept, and there are more features we have yet to put to use. I am expanding the Windows update / Endpoint features as I get time, and the remote PowerShell console is unbeatable for me at present when facing remote computers that are not letting create a new remote PSSession.

Usability

From a receiving perspective, this software has been really easy to use. There is also the capability to have mobile device management so this is applicable to a variety of platforms and devices that may need troubleshooting. The reason I am not rating it a full 10 points is because I notice the lag time for the mouse is a little delayed on a consistent basis.

It's very easy to setup and use. The tree structure organizes the multiple connections in a hierarchical manner which makes it easy to browse and the tabbed browsing make it simple to switch between multiple ongoing connections You can even export the list of connections and import it to another setup.

Reliability and Availability

Usually available without a problem, although sometimes calls get dropped or users sit in empty meeting rooms while waiting for an admin to arrive, while the call is actually going on.

Performance

If you are connected to someone with proper bandwidth, there are no issues at all. With all things, if you connect to someone with dial-up (yes, it still exists), the performance is terrible.

Ive used their tech support a handful of times, and each time they have been able to help me sort out any hiccups or kinks that arise. They have a resourceful knowledge base, and have experts available for training and troubleshooting. I often recommend them to my other coworkers and colleagues because of the ease of use and security

Never actually needed to use support so have no idea - honestly it's simple enough to use I'd be surprised if anyone really needs support with it.

GoToAssist SeeIt was very easy to implement. As long as your techs have a basic understanding of most remote support tools they will be able to understand this product easily.

Alternatives Considered

Intune does not have remote desktop. Intune also does not do 3rd party patching very well. Manage Engine Desktop Central requires a VPN Client to access the remote clients. It also requires quite a bit of configuration to work well. GoTo Resolve is the most complete tool I have used. I would recommend it to anyone.

Every now and then I do look to see if there is any other software that can bring together multiple remote access protocols in a single interface that can contain multiple connections to remote devices with image scaling to mage use of a windowed interface and have yet to find an alternative that does all that but doesn't cost a huge amount. Don't get me wrong I would happily pay for an alternative that could provide an overall better, more convenient experience, but I have yet to find one that has made me think it's worth jumping ship from mRemoteNG.

  • We managed to work in a way that was impossible before these kinds of tools were offered in the market
  • The program is constantly evolving to try to fix bugs and that can affect the day-to-day use.
  • If We find a way to use fewer programs for different tasks would be great and this tool may have the solution in the future
