Honestly they are fairly similar in the nature. The biggest benefit to us as an organization was the cost and prior knowledge of the product. Both products offer a great solution so it just comes down to personal preference and cost.

Another organization was using this software and Trend micro is widely used now a days and remote support is a positive thing. Also policy and updates are always on time delivered by the vendor. Online many software were compared by SME.

I think Trend is well suited for businesses that need an all-in-one malware/antivirus/EDR solution. It works well and runs smoothly in the background not hindering the users. Our only issue with it is the use of it and secure browsers for state testing. The EDR wants to automatically blocked the use of secure browsers setup by the state.

Webroot can be great if you have many employees using computers. Sensitive business information can be accessed by malicious threats online if your employees are not trained to avoid these problems. In this case, I think it's important to have software to protect you. If working with a smaller team (and not doing any sort of video production or other intensive software/applications) I can't see a need for anything like Webroot. Learning how to use the internet safely and protecting your file storage are things to be done on the cheap and with smarts.

Pros
  • Great customer support
  • Automation of application creation and updates
  • Easy to integrate and manage

  • End point implementation: the roll-out of Trend Micro was extremely easy!
  • Server/Device policies: creating both endpoint and server device policies is something we were looking for in a system, since we have a variety of both endpoints with users, as well as several unattended servers needing specific limitations.
  • License Management: removing Trend Micro from machines before destruction or retirement is done in a pinch. There's no struggling to free up an unused license

  • It is very lightweight. You dont even know it is running, yet it is always protecting the endpoint.
  • It has protected us from various threats, including ransomware - even when wannacry was hitting companies everywhere.
  • They have a good console with multiple provisioning options, so we were able to push it to everyone when we first started using it, and then include it as part of our deployment process going forward.

Cons
  • SAS solution
  • Be able to select a specific application version for deployment

  • Only thing I would have to say that's negative is the reporting aspect. Basic reporting is good but still lacks some details. This is a problem with many of the software vendors I have encountered in the past as well. Reporting is still much better than most.

  • I wish that you could delete inactive endpoints when you wanted to. I find myself having to filter out inactive endpoints when searching endpoints.
  • I think Webroot Antivirus + Internet Security Complete (SecureAnywhere) could improve its malware detection better. Malwarebytes seems to have better detection.
  • Over the years, Webroot Antivirus + Internet Security Complete (SecureAnywhere) has made a couple of big mistakes, such as changing something on their end that then accidentally caused one of our business applications to be flagged as malware, which prevented our users from using it.
  • The user friendliness and install on Macs could be more seamless.

I consider Patch My PC a necessary tool for any environment I manage. I cannot imagine managing an environment without it, as the time and effort it saves is invaluable.

It is very easy to stick with a vendor year after year, and it is also easy to see the faults in a product and want to change. This is the first time I have renewed with an antiviurs provider as others have been less than ideal and caused issues where there were none before, so while it isn't perfect, it is the best of the bunch currently and I am hopeful that it will continue to improve in future versions.

It's easy to renew with Webroot, their support is very attentive and highly available. However if you do choose to change products, they even provide means of removing the software from your endpoints via the admin portal which is very convenient.

The dashboard is user-friendly and allows for an IT admin to quickly deploy the software. The users do not even notice the program running in the background. From the dashboard the IT department can monitor all the workstations for issues and maintain good health of the network.

It has been difficult at sometimes, the support people at one point told me that they couldn't tell me information about OfficeScan because it was knowledge that was passed down from engineer to engineer. The issue was that if you used the msi for the install any further installs would require the msi to have the same exact name or else the install fails and corrupts the install. This information is not listed anywhere on trends website. Support kept trying to get me to use the exe for installs instead, but we use SCCM and msi's work better. We had to write a script to come up with a solution so that we could uninstall the software and install the new software. Trend did provide the technical expertise to help with the script and had us work with one of the developers in order to resolve that issue. So they did fix their screw up but it took a while and several complaints.

We have not had to use Webroot support much over the years. The one or two times we did we were referred to online documentation and in a somewhat condescending manner in one case and in another case, the support person did not demonstrate much knowledge of their product and referred us to the user community for support.

  • Since the product is a full suite of protection rolled into a single product, we've seen ROI through cost reduction and simplified management. And while we haven't measured performance, one would logically assume that systems will perform better with a single product installed vs several.

  • From an MSP perspective - I would say it has been an amazing ROI. Cost is important and sometimes not the most important. Overall for the value - we are very happy with the product. Simple to use, simple to roll out, great integration's, and decent support for enterprise partners.
  • Non technical people would consider this a "negative" but anybody in the IT field would understand why things have to be done this way. When rolling out to new clients, inherently, it is challenging to determine all necessary exclusions needed for every application a company has. This can be frustrating for clients with the great level of protection that Webroot provides. From the IT field, we understand that AV roll outs needs to be watched closely to determine when proper exclusions need to be put in place to ensure the clients LOB applications are working correctly.
  • Webroot has helped us achieve the business objectives we set out to make - a strong 'Security Package' that address both virus and malware protection. We will continue to use Webroot in the future as we add more products into our Security Package.
