Slack
Great for both in office and remote environments as a supplement to internal email. Whereas email communication can be slow and crowded, Slack allows for quick communication that is well organized. Great for corporate, internal communication that can also be utilized for outsourcing operations. For long and detailed announcements, especially ones involving legal implications, Slack should not be utilized over email

HighQ Collaborate is well suited to situations where a law firm maintains numerous documents for a client and the client needs access to them on a regular basis. For example, we may store the client's minute book (which is relatively common for a large corporate law firm to do), but the client may need access to documents in that minute book on a regular basis.Likewise, we have an internal system at the firm for hosting digital versions of closing books, however, many clients would not have a similar system because they would only receive closing books irregularly. USBs get lost and the client might not want to put the closing book on the main server where anyone can access it. By putting the closing book on the extranet site, the individuals in the client's organization who should be able to access the closing book can do so.

- Document sharing. This product makes it easy to upload, review and organize documents related to a particular project or matter.
- Permissions. Collaborate allows very granular permissions to be assigned for shared documents and administrative activities such as workflows.
- Reliability. The product is cloud-based and rarely, if ever, unavailable.

Slack
- Reflecting the availability status of an individual based off of integration with other products e.g., Microsoft Outlook. Currently, it does indicate that there is a meeting on Outlook but syncing the status takes it a step further.
- Search feature can be made better with the ability to search based on a certain criteria like a Person etc. This feature is not as mature as it can be.

- It is just not that exciting. We host documents on there for clients but the extranet sites have ultimately turned out to not be a product that our clients are clamoring for or that we are regularly pushing.

Slack works incredibly well and allows our whole remote-first company to work together from all around the World. The flexibility, ease of use and scalability of the solution means that we can continue to grow and make use of the team with a minimum of effort. I can see no obvious reasons why we would migrate to a different tool other than perhaps cost, but whatever savings would disappear in migration/setup time and the initial productivity loss.

Everything just works. I think the navigation and usability is quite intuitive. I have never had to look up any information or google how to use a feature of Slack (both in the desktop form and on the mobile app). I've never heard any complaints from our other employees either. I have been asked to remind people how to set up reminders, ironically. Although that itself is really simple too (you type "/remind" and then the reminder details).

I've never had to contact support for Slack which is a great testament to its ease and use. Adding people outside of the organization takes a little getting used to, but ultimately allows for greater collaboration between FTE and contractors. There is no clear alternative to this software, so it's the best we can do for now.

The interface is easy to use and overall the software seems pretty robust (I haven't had any crashes yet), so I haven't had to use the support very often. Likewise, I don't think I've ever had a client e-mail me with questions or issues - the software is pretty idiot-proof.

It always helps if you communicate to everyone in the organization how important it is to drop whatever other chat tools they are using and jump quickly to Slack. They will all fall in love with it.

Alternatives Considered
Slack
Discord is highly functional and has very good support for voice and video chat. However, Discord feels aimed more at actively getting people together on the app itself. Discord wants you to be there with everyone, while Slack wants you to keep in touch. Discord feels like it's aimed towards building communities; Slack feels like it's aimed towards helping people communicate. It's a minor difference, but it makes Slack feel like a better option for work and planning.

I feel that HighQ does not really have any real competition in this space because it simply accomplishes its goals far better than the competition at lower cost, while requiring less training and administration.

Slack
- Slack has significantly improved team collaboration and communication, and as a result, a large number of users are now able to communicate more effectively.
- It's easier to handle remote work with Slack because it's so simple to do so. On small projects, better communication and collaboration are essential.
- When it comes to business environments, Slack is the best. Saving time by automating routine tasks is one benefit of the technology's existence.
