    Symantec Advanced Threat Protection

It is valuable software for when it comes to a large or medium organization, since it helps to protect the endpoints, but as the number of servers increases its value increases. However, it is important to keep in mind that when it comes to low end devices, its protection can affect their performance. This is because it is not a software with a very light agent.

    WatchGuard Network Security

WatchGuard has excellent features for enterprise network security, but some are only available in higher-cost versions that deliver high security, such as IPS, BOTNET, APT Blocker, SpamBlocker, etc. However, due to its rather high cost, it ends up being more interesting for medium-large companies, and lower-cost solutions for small companies do not have all these security functions, so in many cases, it ends up not being interesting for small companies.

    Pros

    Symantec Advanced Threat Protection

    • USB Control. Only allow certain usb devices to be connected and allow on certain users to have the ability to us usb keys.
    • Easy of Administration, configuration and installation.
    • Support is excellent. When I've called in for help they go above and beyond to help you resolve you issue or answer your questions on a certain configuration.

    WatchGuard Network Security

    • Great combination of easy to configure but still maintaining a lot of in-depth features and control available if desired
    • WatchGuard Cloud [is ]included on basic and total security packages to provide [a] valuable look into [an] activity that passes through the firewall. (A lot of other platforms such as Meraki you need to simply use Syslog and third-party tools to get insights and look for issues that need remediation)
    • Cohesive integration with other products such as AuthPoint for MFA adds value you can't get from traditional RADIUS only integrations of other platforms.

    Cons

    Symantec Advanced Threat Protection

    • The interface can be a little wonky at times and can slow to a crawl when trying to do too much.
    • Having to manually (or use another tool such as Symantec Enterprise Manager) to upgrade the endpoints is not the best way to implement clients.
    • Pricing for purchase and upgrade is a little strange and takes more thinking than it should.
    • They were recently purchased by Broadcomm and the new regime has been making some changes that appear to be more for larger customers.

    WatchGuard Network Security

    • It would be nice to have a fully functional web interface [for the] server manager. The server manager is often very slow over remote connections.
    • Better support for OpenVPN server, or at least an easier way of creating tunnels using OpenVPN.
    • user VPN user management is a little confusing until you understand that all users need to be created under SSL users, regardless of VPN type.
    • Would be nice to have traffic statistics on traffic management objects.

Symantec Advanced Threat Protection has done a sufficient job at identifying true positives. However, the UI could be improved and the amount of false positives is a little too frequent for my liking

Ever since 2007, WatchGuard Fireboxes and WatchGuard network layer security solutions have been the most security effective with the lowest TCO of any solution on the market when properly implemented and properly maintained. As with any network layer security solution, the underlying network must first be architected correctly in order to facilitate network layer security, but then an extremely highly skilled network security architect must device, implement, and maintain a network layer security solution in order to achieve efficacy. This is true of any network layer security solution. Few people worldwide have that skill. However, WatchGuard technologies when implemented and supported by a qualified partner are able to deliver that solution very cost-effectively to the SMB space. No other solution can achieve that.

The WatchGuard Network Security provide a web interface or a client interface, no matter what you approach is but you have two full powerful instrument to manage the firewall with easy interface (web) or with strong security (client). We prefer the usage with client but in fast change can be done in the web interface in a zip

I give this rating as a result of almost 20 years of interfacing with WatchGuard technical support. Of all my vendors that I have to deal with WatchGuard is one of the best I have ever dealt with bar none. I have seldom finished a call to them without a solution. If they by chance don't have the solution, they will figure it out and get back to you ASAP as well as update the casefile online. Technical support is available via phone and web portal. It takes a few minutes to create a case online, assign a priority and submit. They get back to you depending on the critical nature of the issue, but you can expect urgent attention for critical and catastrophic issues.

We are very satisfied with the implementation. The deployment tools are easy to use and managing is a breeze. Training onsite IT contacts is easy to keep total investment of time low. We are happy with the management tool suite and find it easier to use especially policy center. It allows to see all rules and details from a single pane rather than fumbling through different configs

    Alternatives Considered

    Symantec Advanced Threat Protection

Symantec Advanced Threat Protection is one of the best compared to other current vendors & competitors. Symantec Advanced Threat Protection has the most complete features such as content analysis, network detection & response, web filtering, email detection & response, content analysis, web isolation, & more. It had slow development at the beginning but the acceleration for the last few years was incredible.

    WatchGuard Network Security

WatchGuard Network Security has the same features as some of the above, yet they will cost you far less than some of the mentioned firewalls. The deployment process is very easy compared to the above. I mentored and trained a few engineers, and in no time, they were able to scope, deploy and support WatchGuard Network Security without asking for help.

    Return on Investment

    Symantec Advanced Threat Protection

    • We haven't ever suffered from a serious security compromise, and I owe that to our Symantec AV.
    • Once installed and set up, it's difficult to pull it out of the environment and try something else, so it has a way of keeping itself stable.
    • Some customers have a hard time paying the price because they don't "see" it do anything, and wonder what they are paying for.
    Andrew Bouwhuis | TrustRadius Reviewer

    WatchGuard Network Security

    • VPN has meant my users are secure even when they are not in the office, this has reduced risk when they are using public networks and home networks that IT cannot regulate.
    • The increased security provided by the firewalls has enabled us to positively answer questions on customers' RFI assessments to their potential customers.
    • Central Management in Dimension saves our engineers time by not having to jump onto every firewall one by one.
