What is Pimcore?

Pimcore is an open-core Product Experience Management (PXM) platform designed for enterprise organizations that require consolidation of product data, digital assets, and customer experience delivery within a unified infrastructure. Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Salzburg, Austria, the platform serves as a centralized ecosystem for managing multi-channel data operations.

  • Product Information Management (PIM/PXM): Centralizes marketing, sales, and technical product data. Editions

Pimcore is distributed under the Pimcore Open Core License (POCL) in four distinct editions:

  • Community Edition: Available without licensing fees for organizations generating under €5 million in annual revenue.
  • Professional Edition: Designed for mid-sized operations requiring standard commercial support.
  • Enterprise Edition: Built for large-scale enterprise deployments.
  • Enterprise PaaS Edition: Delivered as a fully managed Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud environment.


All editions share the same core code framework, while commercial editions add extended features, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and long-term technical support.


According to Pimcore, the platform is deployed in more than 110,000 installations across 12,000 organizations in 82 countries, with high adoption rates in manufacturing, wholesale, and retail sectors.

  • Make single click setup over Digital Ocean, Linode and other cloud provider

  • Pimcore is fully opensource and based on leading Symfony, the leading PHP framework. It has a well-developed partner network and community support.
  • In contrast to other systems that have a quite rigid architecture Pimcore is designed as a platform for developers. It can be used to model complex data architecture with ease and develop features tailored to customer needs.
  • It provides a fully integrated platform for Product Information Management, Digital Asset Management, and Enterprise Content Management. This ensures there is no duplication of assets and content and data across multiple systems.
  • All PIM features are also available through a REST-based Web Service allowing easy integration with other applications.
  • In addition to PIM, DAM and WCM features it also provides a robust eCommerce platform.

Cons

  • Pimcore is not intended to be used as an out of the box system but as a platform. Hence non-technical users take some time to get started with it.

Pimcore is used for the delivery of key data points related to a product. It's an excellent product information management system used by some specific departments in my organization. The biggest reason why this was considered is that it's a free and open tool that is regularly updated and well supported by its core developers.
