Overall Satisfaction with Amazon Web Services

We use the Amazon Web Services as a connect to our US Network and applications for employees across the globe and work from home staff.
The Basic scope of our use case is to host web applications, data analytics, backup and disaster recovery. The business problems we had faced and was address by AWS is to scale our infrastructure without significant upfront investment, AWS provides a Pay as you go model as well

Pros

  • Web application hosting using EC2 Instances
  • AWS Backup and Storage options using S3 bucket
  • AWS Lambda and API Gateway for APIs
  • Redshift and QuickSight to analyse our user data

Cons

  • The AWS Management Console can be overwhelming. so a better dashboard and organizing it would improve usability.
  • The pricing models are complex. We need a more clear price calculators and cost management tools to manage our expenses better.
  • Enhancements in cross service compatibility and easier third party integrations could streamline workflow.
  • Simplifying model training in SageMaker and improving IAM for granular access control would make AWS more user friendly
  • Transitioning to AWS reduced infrastructure costs by 30% and enabled a 200% increase in user registrations contributing to a 40% revenue boost.
  • AWS tools cut product launch cycles by 40% allowing for quicker feature releases and improved customer satisfaction.
  • Initial training costs were around $50,000 and we faced unexpected billing spikes highlighting the need for better usage monitoring.
AWS offers a wide range of powerful services that cater to various business needs which is significant strength. The ability to scale resources on-demand is a major advantage making it suitable for businesses of all sizes. The sheer volume of options and configurations can be overwhelming for new users leading to a steep learning curve. While functional the AWS management console can feel cluttered and less intuitive compared to some competitors which can hinder navigation. Although some documentation lacks clarity and practical examples which can frustrate users trying to implement specific solutions.
AWS has the largest market share and most established and over 200 services for diverse needs. AWS has a very power user interface and pay as you go work well that others. AWS has the by far largest network of data centers for low latency and high availability. The regular updates and new features are very good. It has a proven track record for security and uptime.

Do you think Amazon Web Services delivers good value for the price?

Did Amazon Web Services live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Amazon Web Services go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Amazon Web Services again?

Yes

One of the scenarios I can think of is to Deploy a web application that may experience fluctuating traffic. AWS EC2 and Elastic Beanstalk allow for quick deployment and easy scaling accommodating traffic spikes without downtime.
Next thing is to analyze large datasets for business insights. AWS services like EMR (Elastic MapReduce) and Redshift enable efficient processing and analysis of big data with minimal setup. Now for one of the scenarios where is less appropriate is if we want to host a simple static website, for basic sites using a dedicated hosting service like GitHub Pages or Netlify may be simpler and most effective than AWS
