Overall Satisfaction with Articulate 360

We use Articulate 360 to build courses that we export as SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) 1.2 packages. We then use these packages to build courses in our Learning Management System (LMS). We like Articulate 360 because the learning curve isn't too steep for new employees. It also has a lot of out-of-the-box features that let us build video-heavy online courses with additional interactive content like quizzes, flashcards, etc.

Pros

  • Building SCORM packages
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to set up collaborators and to send out content for review

Cons

  • The color schemes are very limited and are not conformant to color contrast accessibility standards
  • It is difficult to to do language localization for multiple languages in the same account.
  • It would be nice to be able to have video thumbnails that are separate from video content
  • We can build course content fairly quickly. Then when we have the SCORM package file, we can send those to hundreds of schools wordwide very easily, with the course being standardized everywhere
  • The cost is very high, and they do not allow monthly subscriptions, so you are stuck with yearly licenses, even though you might not use it year-round
  • While SCORM 1.2 is what we publish content as, there are other more modern export formats like xAPI that can provide customers who have an LRS much more detailed information on how their learners are doing with course materials
We have had some projects which required a quick turn-around time and were "all hands on deck", needing a lot of people working in Articulate 360. This meant HR and Accounting staff were using Articulate 360 to build courses. The ease of use allowed us to train them up quick and get our project out the door on time.
We used to build course content natively in our LMS. Then we tried Adobe Captivate for a while, but the learning curve on that was really steep and it took a long time just to train instructional designers on simple things. And while Captivate can really make some beautiful content, the effort was worth it.

Do you think Articulate 360 delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Articulate 360's feature set?

Yes

Did Articulate 360 live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Articulate 360 go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Articulate 360 again?

Yes

If you want to quickly create SCORM content that has videos, handouts, simple interactives, etc then Articulate 360 is great. You can create more complex interactive content with Storyline, but that has a much steeper learning curve. If you want to create learning content that you need to constantly change, then Articulate 360 is not necessarily the best option, and you might want to just use the course creation features of an LMS.
