Overall Satisfaction with Automox
It was a hassle trying to patch 3rd party apps for Windows and Linux devices, especially if they weren't from super popular companies. Automox not only does that like a champ, but includes macOS 3rd party apps and all 3's OS updates as well. Even has a remote control add-on! So easy to use, worth every penny!
Pros
- 3rd Party app patching on Windows devices. With Intune, you have to create Intune packages and constantly redo them every time and update gets added. With Automox, we can create policies to automatically patch these apps when updates become available.
- Allows us to remote into endpoints with ease. If I need to help someone who is remote, instead of talking them through everything I can remote in and take care of it myself.
- Updates on VMs. For VMs that live in Azure, it can be difficult to program them to pull the latest updates no matter which OS they use. With Automox, it's super easy!
Cons
- Some devices will show available updates for apps like Chrome, and other devices won't even though they are the same make/model/OS. Doesn't say any are available even though there is.
- When we remove Automox from devices, something happens with the secure token where if you try to add Automox back, it says there's already a token in place, so it won't allow the device to become compatible.
- The lag between pushing policies and when they actually hit the device, even when the device is online. Sometimes it's right away, but other times it can take hours. Makes it hard when I need someone to put in their credentials for secure token enabling. They might only have a few minutes where they will be online in any given day, so to not be able to time it is rough.
- Has saved me at least 8 hours of time per week spent in Intune figuring out how to keep certain apps up to date.
- Saved me at least 100 hours of time that would've needed to be spent in Intune figuring out how to manage Macs with it. The only reason we'd need Intune for Mac is if we needed to push patches. Now with Automox, we don't need that.
- We were able to save $1000 per month on remote desktop software since Automox has it built-in as an add-on and is way cheaper.
Our scores in Microsoft Defender went up for our security posture and Weaknesses report. I used to spend hours a week going over each CVE figuring out who needs to patch which apps, and reach out to them to patch them if I couldn't push it myself. I now have that time back!
Automox blows Intune out of the water in terms of app patching. I don't know why Microsoft doesn't spend money on making pushing patches easy with Intune, but that creates an opportunity for others I guess? If you've ever worked with Intune you know what I'm talking about. If not, read up a little and you'll understand my frustration!
